Tanev is good. He’s a legit top 4 shut down pair d like Brodie used to be. And that’s a pretty good deal for Dallas considering the shit D that have gone for 1sts in the past (Charoit, Savard etc).

But for the Leafs to top that we’d have to give up a 3rd and a good prospect or the 1st, which i don’t think makes sense for a rental.

I’d avoid rentals, unless it’s a prime aged guy you’d bring back like Hanifin. They’ve pissed enough assets down the toilet for 20 games from players. Over the last handful of years they’ve given up two firsts and three 2nds or whatever for rentals that didn’t give us much. Imagine having 5 more Cowen/Knies/Mintens in the org.

I’d much perfer another McCabe type deal if we are trading 1sts or good prospects.

Brodie's been a top pair D his whole career, Tanev a 2nd pair D. And Brodie's teams have mostly been better than Tanev's teams.
