Honestly, I think it depends. In Dundon’s case I do actually think he’s personally deserving of it, because he is undeniably the guy that put that management group in place and let them cook.

But his wife and little kids being on there makes a mockery of the trophy and the sport.
 
It’s the joke of somehow equating the existence of the relatives to the full year grind that the players suffered through to emerge as the champs. The names have no business whatsoever being in the same space.
 
Im surprised the league and or the nhlpa doesn’t review the names before they are approved to be engraved.

This can get out of hand in a hurry and become an even bigger embarrassment. Imagine the Leafs winning the cup, and they decide to put Justin Beiber on it b/c ‘he’s a celebrity ambassador’

They did at some point, at least, since back in the 80's Peter Pocklington had his father's name put on the Cup, and then the league had it crossed out since he was not employed by the team and had nothing to do with them.

No idea if they still do in the Bettman era though. But yeah, zero chance Gary makes Dundon walk this back. Even though this sets a terrible precedent, and the day's probably going to come where some jerkoff billionaire is going to put his entire extended family and some friends on there. Hell, at some point, some MAGA-as-fuck owner will probably put Trump's name on there to suck up.
 
What’s with the cross out stuff though? Is it so hard to replace the newly added section? Or are the names actually engraved into the cup itself?
