Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

That talk is mostly scapegoating.

The historically low mortgage rate for 10 years is the fundamental driver behind the run up in housing prices. I would include a labour shortage in construction and supply chain issues for materials as other factors.
Foreign investment is definitely a major issue in BC.

But reports are its barely 4% of the market , ok FK OFF
Let's say it's 4%. Let's say that 4% of every properties on the market every year is taking off the market (as it just sits there inhabited), that shrinks the pool of available properties for residents pretty quickly.

it is mere cosmetics as there is no way it will lower the prices, it might slow an increase but that is it. It will hurt my law firm as one group does a ton of land development and without the asians and persians buying up buildings, that market could slow. I might have to sleep on Habsy's Florida couch for the next 2 years...

Slow down the increase was the goal

Slow down the increase was the goal
but does it really matter if the house you cannot afford is 1.7 million or 1.9? Just like with cloth mask mandates and now testing of Chinese flights, it is the appearance of doing something that is the goal, not achieving anything of impact. The Chinese are getting around it by sending their children here to attend "school", and then having the child pay for the house.

It does if you can afford a 1M house now but wouldn't be able to afford the same house at 1.5M in 2 years.

Good post

My only issue is foreigners have fucked up the mid level market killing affordability

Here in Toronto entire condo buildings are sold and flipped to foreign buyers

The high end stuff will only sell in that structure already out of reach

Yeah, I say it jokingly, but the realities of European hockey are really tough. Jagr started playing again this year because his team needed someone in the lineup.
