Around The League - 2025 Offseason

And the fact that an inconsequential signing of a player who is destined for a career in the minor leagues motivates shitposters on Twitter to dogwhistle to the homophobes who think rape is cool if youre good at hockey is also telling.

It was cancelled because the virtuous on X and all their white outrage were calling for players exercising their freedom of conscience/religion not to participate to be suspended, kicked out of the league. Easier not to have it than face X's faux outrage.

All the league had to do was allow conscientious objectors. 99+% wearing/participating should have been enough but the X outrage gestapo requires 100% enthusiastic compliance or they bitch. Now they lost it all.

You cannot "conscientiously object" to basic human rights. Anyone who objects to Pride Night is a homophobe. Homophobia is part and parcel of "hockey cultire"; the same culture of male entitlement present in rape culture, which is why there is frequently overlapping of the two.

The league should have fined and suspended any player who was non-compliant. No exceptions.

You just proved my point with your faux outrage. Not wearing a pride jersey (none of which you have ever bought nor worn, and btw you have made a great many homophobic comments here, on FB and X so you should not cast aspersions on anyone) doesn't take away anyone's basic human right.

Btw why is it when a hockey player talks about conquests, he be bad, but other non players can talk about leaving paths of destruction through sorority houses, and that is cool?

It isnt bad to talk about so-called "conquests". Nobody is demanding that they take a vow of celibacy. Just don't rape anyone. That's a pretty low bar but the fact that Hockey Canada needed to maintain a slush fund to pay hush money to victims of these clowns tells us that they couldn't even reach it.

And I never said that refusal to wear a pride jersey was taking away someone's rights. I said that it was sending a message that you dont believe these people should have the same rights as you do. It was a league wide initiative that should never have been optional. And as I've said, what would the reaction be if a player said no to wearing a camouflage jersey on Support the Troops Night? Would that be cool with you? Would the same homophobes who applaud other homophobes for refusing to wear Pride Night jerseys also be applauding players who said "thanks but no thanks" to saluting the military-industrial complex?

Im thinking probably not because refusing to participate in Pride Night was never about personal religious convictions. It was always about the basic homophobia of hockey culture or, more accurately, male sports culture, since hockey players do not have that market cornered by any means.
