Around The League - 2025 Playoffs

I actually don’t hate their fans, most of them are super nice and knowledgeable. I just hate the premise that it’s their god given right to have a generational player on their roster.
It's the only way to keep them from going bankrupt.

They were almost dead when Mario showed up. Then, when he retired and they stopped winning, they nearly died again and had to let Mario own the team just to recoup the money he was owed. Then they got Sid. Once he's gone they will suck again and unless they get the next generational star, they will go broke.

The Habs will never go broke, with or without a generational talent.

I'd love to see them going toward bankruptcy without a generational talent to save them, see how much their fairly large fan base can support the team without being blessed by uncanny luck.

We already know the answer to that. If a decade or so of Mario and 2 Cups didn't make the fans avid enough to support the team after he left and the team stopped being a perennial contender, it tells me that support for the Pens is, and likely will always be, a mile wide and about an inch deep. I doubt that the last several years of Sid and 3 more Cups changes anything. As soon as the team hits the skids they either go broke or get another superstar who can sell tickets.

Personally I think they've got away with being lazy because they lucked into Mario (well, that one they engineered) Jagr, Sid and Malkin. Their luck needs to run out.

Yes. And if they can't support a team without a superstar, after 4 Cups and being blessed with legendary players, then they don't deserve one. I have zero sympathy.
