Best of the internet

Fucking love it.

I don't know what the fuck has happened to this world. Was there this much daily weapon brandishing, follow homes, home invasions, sword wielding lunatics slicing people, bombers, school shooters, and so on always and we just didn't know because there was no social media to disseminate footage around the world, or is this all something relatively new? It's totally fucked up. I just saw a news blurb earlier about some fuckface who dumped scalding water on this poor woman. What in the hell is going on out there?

I just hope that every asshole who tries anything gets smashed over the head like this useless piece of shit was.

I don't think the level of what I'd call fucking nutbag crimes are down. These home invasions, follow homes, lunatics shooting up stores or running around with knives and swords, have to be happening more than ever. This shit couldn't have been happening with this sort of frequency back in the 80s.

Violent crime is down slightly in Canada, all other sorts way down

In the US: https://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

Since the 70's/80's

- Robberies are down by about 150%
- Murders are down about 50%
- Forcible rapes were down about 50% but sadly made a comeback prior to covid (keep in mind, this source ends it's data in 2019....all crime was down again in the covid era even compared to immediately pre covid)
- Violent crime rates are half of what they were in the early 90's, 60-70% reduced from the 80's
- Assaults are up slightly, I blame Dana White

Seriously though, it's the perception of violence and craziness that is up, not the actual instances. People are no more or less likely to report crimes than they were 40 years ago. This isn't a data issue.

I think the proliferation of cameras everywhere, cell phone tracking, DNA, and other general technological advances since then have reduced crime overall, but I'm talking about the Grand Theft Auto style videogame shit that we're seeing almost daily. Back in the day, I don't think it was common for all this stepped up shit, and also the random insanity like that knife wielder in the video (who was trying to accomplish what exactly in that crowd in broad daylight?). There's just no way or we'd have seen it be the top story on our local news every night back then.

Yeah man, I don't buy that at all. The only types of violent crime I think the US seen an actual significant increase in is mass shootings and politically motivated violence.

Wild ass bank robberies used to be relatively common in the US. Organized crime used to be fucking pervasive across the country, etc, etc. Random idiots waving knives around aren't up at all imo, just our awareness of them because of cameras.

You're a victim of the algos.

most major cities had dozens of serial killers running around in the 70s and 80s

Today’s crims are like most of us regular folk, they want instant dopamine and lack the patience required for a lengthy serial killing journey

Reminds me of this short videoclip of Ray Liotta (rest in peace):

Gotta remember there's more people.
If just 1% of the population are absolute shitheads, you're chances of running into a shithead have increased greatly over the years.
Hell, the area I'm living in went from 10-15000 people to over 50 000...that's just more shitheads no matter how you slice it.
