I know Tommy a little from helping him get land for his Christmas tree business sorted out back in the day. Really sweet guy until you get him started on the state of Wolfpack basketball, at which point he instantly turns into a sport talk radio caller stereotype. The length of the guy never ceases to amaze me ... he's just huge. My Dad and I ran into him on the concourse at the Final Four last year and he came striding over to say hey. The man covered the entire width of a football stadium concourse in like 5 steps. How many times did they reset that shot clock for the god damned commies? That really chapped my 10 year old self.
Way OT, but one evening I was sitting watching warmups and saw some movement in my peripheral vision. I turned to see a pair of sneakers behind and to the side of me. Damned, colossally big fucking sneakers. The legs they belonged to continued over the row behind me and were attached to Tommy sitting a couple rows back. We exchanged hellos and the Pack hand sign. I've seen him at the new barn a few times. Good natured guy. I suppose you'd have to be, being recognized all the time w/o going postal.
LOL. Yep. After Demidov made it to Montreal a week or so ago, the NHL radio guys started talking about Nikishin and saying how "supposedly he's the Russian Cale Makar." I laughed very loudly as this was the first I had heard of any comparison of Nikishin to anyone, let alone Cale freakin' Makar.Back on the subject of Boom ...
The idiots comparing Nikishin to Cale Makar are doing nobody any favors. His game has virtually nothing in common with Makar or Quinn Hughes. Hedman, yes. Those guys, no.
Yeah, it's coming pretty much from the national guys right now, but it seems to have started with the YouTubers. You've GOT to be careful giving too much weight to what 90% of the randos with a YouTube channel have to say about pretty much everything ... but especially when it comes to European players who have never played in North America. That's like a blank canvas to let your imagination run wild based solely on counting stats and a few highlight clips and that's SUPER dangerous.LOL. Yep. How about we give our kid a full season or two in the NHL before we compare him to anyone or anything.
