Figured I'd look back and see how my drafts have went historically. Be prepared for some Blunders!
Farthest back thread I could find 2was for the 2014/2015 Draft, so I'll start from there. I did find a couple earlier draft review threads so I'll post those too.
2010/2011
1st round, pick 1- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Only pick I made. Turned out to be ok. Volcanologist had probably the best pick with Kucherov in the 2nd round. Solid value by TJF taking John Gibson in the 3rd.
2011/2012
I had 0 picks in this draft lol.
2012/2013
2013/2014
2014/2015
1st round, pick 17- Kasperi Kapanen
no 2nd rounder
3rd round, pick 57- Vladimir Tkachev
4th round, pick 66- Tyson Baillie
Kapanen was an ok pick for the slot, the other 2 picks amounted to nothing.
A couple steals/solid picks in that draft from other managers: Tony Deangelo @18 by blueman, Larkin @23 by Kritter, Pastrnak @31 by AXL, Point @50 by LM101.
2015/2016
1st round, pick 8- Pavel Zacha
3rd round, pick 48- Zachary Senyshyn
4th round, pick 68- PA Parentaeau (from protected list)
Bad, bad draft here. Zacha could still turn things around and become a solid player, but time is ticking there. I thought at the time I was getting good value taking a 1st round player in the 3rd with Senyshyn. I wasn't. He may become a 4th liner, but it was a wasted pick.
Strong picks in this draft include Artemi Panarin @24 by Matrim, Thomas Chabot @34 by Artnes, Sebastian Aho @52 by HP and Kirill Kaprizov @71 by Mindz.
2016/2017
1st round, pick 3- Jesse Puljujarvi
2nd round, pick 37- Yegor Korshkov
3rd round, pick 43- Chad Krys
4th round, pick 78- Teddy Purcell (from protected list)
I think this was the start of my long, 4 year rebuild. Not a great start. Puljujarvi may still turn into something. Korshkov has some hope, but probably wont be fantasy relevant. Krys has good AHL numbers but probably is too small to make the NHL.
Strong picks in this draft include Charlie McAvoy @17 by Not your Stepan Stone, Alex Debrincat @23 by NYSS and Adam Fox @39 by BG's 86ers.
2017/2018
1st round, Pick 2- Nolan Patrick
1st round, Pick 3- Cale Makar
1st round, Pick 5- Timothy Liljegren
2nd round, Pick 23- Jake Oettinger
2nd round, Pick 29- Connor Timmins
Ugh, this draft has proven rough. Effectively 5 1st round picks. Patrick has had some bad injury luck but could still turn out. I probably make that pick again. Makar was a good pick even though he isn't on my team any more. With the Liljegren pick I was on the fence between him and Heiskanen. I was too caught up in the Leaf hype and decided to go with the homer pick. So far that has been a big mistake. Oettinger looks like he could be a good pick and should hopefully solidify my goaltending in 2 years or so. Timmins was pick that looks like it can still be decent.
Strong picks in this draft include Elias Pettersson @12 by Blueman and Martin Necas @16 by Deckie. Special highlight to Jonas here, who looked to have a really strong draft with Yamamoto @14, Klostin @16, Robert Thomas @20, Anothony Cirelli @56 and Max Comtois @58.
2018/2019
1st round, pick 2- Andrei Svechnikov
1st round, pick 9- Adam Boqvist
2nd round, pick 20- Dominik Bokk
2nd round, pick 28- Ty Dellandrea
Very happy with my draft here. Svech looks to be a beast and I have high hopes for Boqvist. Bokk and Dellandrea are off my team but I think they were solid picks at the time.
Hard to really judge strong/steal picks this soon, but Perunovich in the 4th round for Deckie looks really solid so far.
2019/2020
1st round, pick 1- Jack Hughes
2nd round, pick 20- Philip Broberg
2nd round, pick 31- Nicholas Robertson
4th round, pick 66- Alex Beaucage
Like my picks here. Broberg and Robertson look to be really strong picks for their slots.
Again too soon to really pick steals/strong picks from this draft.
2020/2021
1st round, Pick 4- Marco Rossi
2nd round, Pick 21- Noel Gunler
3rd round, pick 51- Daniel Gushchin
3rd round, pick 54- Veeti Miettenen
4th round, pick 59- Jordan Greenway
I'm on the Rossi Hype train so I am really happy with the pick at 4. Gunler has a lot of potential, so I figured I'd take the high risk/high reward pick there. Will see how my other picks shake out.
Overall, I feel like my drafting has gotten better over the years. I've had a lot of busts and a lot of bad luck on higher picks lol. I still haven't (that I can find), had a later round pick that really took off. Would be nice to have one of those work out for me lol.
Now if we look at my trade history, there are probably a lot more blunders in there. I think I've done the best for myself in this league working the waivers and finding value in undrafted free agents.
