Evgeny Kuznetsov to Canes

Washington retaining 50%, and he's under contract for next year ... which is ... oof.

On the upside, he'll certainly be happy to be out of purgatory in DC and has always been a good playoff guy. And he's ... rested ... lol

Only giving up a third rounder for him. I have some concerns about aspects of his game, but there's little question that he's a finisher.

One thing for the rest of the regular season ... Carolina just added two guys who are better in shootouts than pretty much anybody on the current roster.
Kuznetsov takes three and a half minutes to take his shootout shot too so bonus hockey coming!!! :)

On paper, this deal looks really good. Yes, he was waived, but he has a history of solid performance - sufficient to give up a 3rd round pick.

But we hope he can stay on the straight and narrow. There's been a lot of wasted potential in his life story -

Sounds like RBA was very complimentary of him at the allstar game in 2022. If he can get Kuzy to perform like he did TA the first time, I'd be over the moon.

Definitely didn't see this coming, but it fits. Kuznetsov is not purely a rental, the asset acquisition cost is pretty much nil and the upside potential is high.

I wouldn't have gone this route, but hopefully Kuznetsov is brought back to life by the opportunity. He also has Orlov to help him navigate the new situation.

We definitely cannot complain that we didn't try to make a run this season. We traded for the top goalscorer available and then added a depreciated asset with high upside potential. All done without trading away our 1st round picks for years and really any of our top prospects.

Also, a guy that RBA thought highly of at the 2022 All-Star game

Kuznetsov will wear #92. Is Jeffy O’Neill gonna go off on another xenophobic screed, like he did when Ponomarev wore it?
