Game 41 | Canadiens vs. Flyers | Jan. 5, 2016

What exactly did DD do last night to merit 17min TOI? 5-major anchors on this team: Markov, DD, Emelin, Eller, and Plekanec (nearly $24M cap hit)

Eller and Emelin are overpaid depth players, they aren't going to define your team's identity.

But your centers will and as long as Pleks and DD are playing significant roles as they have been for a few years now I don't see this team becoming a team that will put fear in opposition.

AG can and will eventually put that fear because he has the lethal combination of size, speed and skill...but he's not at that stage yet but getting there.

The two others have to go and had to go for a while now

The entire team was absolute garbage last night. Who should have gotten more ice time?

Can't blame this loss on one person and analyze the ice time of one guy.. not when no one played well. Even Carr and Chucky had bonehead plays on the first and second philly goals.

Galchenyuk should've been over 20-min - if he is the "one", give him the time, Plekanec & DD have proven time & again they are definitely NOT the ones.

Yes Galchenyuk screwed up on the 1st Philly goal, but he at least is capable of winning board/puck battles. DD's a lost cause on the road, and Plekanec as usual is unwilling to engage physically & battle - it's never been nor will it ever be at 33-yrs of age.

The Pleks hatred is unfounded. Sorry. I get that you might not like his game, but he is the best "fit" for Max, so he will get the ice time by default. He is 20th among all NHL centres in scoring and he is defensively sound. His contract is not outrageous, it is average for the market place and he does not have a no trade clause.

I would love to have an elite centre on the 1st line, but until we do, Pleks is exactly where he should be.

Plekanec allows the safety net to exist, like giving young kids chairs to learn skating on the ice, when the only way to do it, is fall & get back up to try again. MT or any coach will always default to their "safe veteran presence" which is what Plekanec provides, that allows the vicious circle of mediocre to continue, disabling the needed step change improvement from happening.

So play 27 on the first line and let him grow into the role. 14's not not getting better at this point in his career.

When I learned to skate there were no chairs to lean on. You learned how to skate or you fell down. And when you fell your only option was to get up and skate. Having a chair allows you to not actually learn how to skate but only how to lean on a chair while wearing skates. But this is the world we live in now. The world of the coddled milennials where measures are taken to ensure that they never have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

If you try to skate you may fall down and since ice is hard the fall may hurt a bit. But the memory of that fall will motivate you to try and skate better so that you don't fall the next time. If you never have to face these things you'll never learn.

In the real world you aren't going to have a chair to lean on so you'd better damn well know how to skate on your own. And Therrien isn't always going to have "chairs" like Plekanec to lean on either. Eventually he's going to have to play Galchenyuk on the top line and live with the results. But I don't know how Galchenyuk can possibly get better than he is unless he plays more minutes and in more situations. He sure as hell won't learn by watching Plekanec from the bench.

Well when 27 stops stickhandling into the boards and north south instead of east west, he can have a shot

Unfortunately, this is true. Galchenyuk is playing shit these days. He was directly responsable for the first goal. Got lucky on a deflection and was invisible the rest of the game beside trying to dangle the entire lineup and lose the puck. He needs to stop trying to do everything by himself and open his eyes. Did you see how many time he missed perfect onetimer pass on the PP? it was embarrasing...
