- A .395 win percentage is genuinely poor for a team with this much talent
- The core of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares is expensive and aging — wasted seasons hurt
- The team looks checked out down the stretch
The case for patience:
- Coaching changes mid-rebuild rarely fix underlying roster or culture problems
- If ownership/management made poor roster decisions, that's not entirely on the bench
- A new coach needs time and the right players to succeed
