GDT #35: 2024/01/02 - Enter the Hildebeast

Great game, and no exaggeration, I can’t remember us playing with that combination of speed and grit/toughness in, I dunno, maybe years? That looked like it was in fast forward but yet regular speed.

Now it's on to two easy games against bottom feeders that won't cause us any problems.

Brodie looked awful again.
With the availability of Benoit, and lagesson...you really really only need a replacement for Brodie...ie someone in the first pairing that you can trust for defensive match ups and someone who can eat minutes, play with some bite, and just be steady.

This is why I believe Brodie is going to be involved in a trade by the deadline for said defenseman mention.
We aren't resigning him, so if he can be used to get a better version of him...that's the play.
And today is the anniversary of the gilmour trade with Calgary.

Just sayin

It was disgraceful to see kings trying injure cock with dirty plays multiple times

nice.

what could have been a great win ends up only as a good win because of that dumb shell 3rd.

the shell did prevent many golden chances and Jones wasn't forced to do anything crazy but still that was a lot of pressure after controlling the first 2 periods so well.

silver lining - they tired Jones out just enough that Hildeby has to play tomorrow.

At the midway point they had given up .7 xGA, and in the second half they gave up 2.43.

The idea that in order to play better D they need to play worse is insane in the analytics era. Obviously teams trailing play different too but that means it’s easier to score more. it’s better to keep the puck from them.

Didn't watch the game but holy shit the nerdies went from looking great after two periods to pretty shit after 3. The third period must have been wild.
