This one is a pretty nice test. Kinda looks like a scheduled loss tbh - the surprising caps have remained red hot even with Ovechkin out, they're on 5 days of rest while we're on a back to back, they're now fully healthy with Ovy back, while the Leafs are still missing Matthews and are starting their 3rd string goalie.
BUT, of course, i still don't believe in these caps and all the surprise breakout/career years they're having all over the lineup. And while the Leafs are still down their #1C and #1G, the depth finally getting healthy has at least given them some stability and started giving them some promising play from their bottom 2 lines. The two combos from last night - McMann-Domi-Robertson and Lorentz-Kampf-Dewar both have the makings of being legit plus lines in their roles, and the more they play together the better they should get. That's going to be what i'm watching for most tonight - the play of those two lines against a good team.
the other thing i'm looking at as whether McCabe-Tanev can continue to build back to the elite shutdown game they had before mccabe was injured.
Unfortunately it looks like Timmins is out again tonight, even though imo Timmins in for Benoit could potentially really unlock the D, giving us 3 L/R pairings and puckmoving ability throughout the D.
There's still the makings of an elite team in here somewhere I think:
