GDT #43: JAN 4, 7:00 - Captain's Revenge

I only saw half the game, how did Marchment play?

Nice to see a nice guy like Hutchinson breath new life. Keefe seems to do that for players doesn't he? I mean we are missing Muzzin and Soup, and we haven't missed a beat. Damn, impressive if you ask me.

- watch out, but it looks like Keefe may have fixed kappy too now
- auston Matthews on the ice with the net empty. Keefe >>>>

You just don't trade Kappy or Hyman. But if Keefe wants to trade someone, hey, all up to him. Guy seems to have a magic wand.

I feel like this is one of the more important games of this run they've been on, just being able to play this style and come out with the win....nice.

This was one of the more impressive wins of the streak. Leafs really needed to hang in there, do their thing until they broke through.

And of course, Hutch gets a well deserved shutout. Few highlight saves.
Yeah, the patience was critical to the win.

Part of the reason we played him today is that we need to get Freddy some rest. Part of it is that we feel good and confident about Hutch and you want to give him a chance to go out and win a game that maybe not many people would give him much of a chance or think that he would. If we are going to gain some traction with our backup goaltender, we’ve got to give them opportunities to play in scenarios where it is not a back-to-back. It is a game here — high pressure, Saturday night against a good team — and obviously he responded very well.

Most here never doubted they could do it. But this will at the very least shut up the talking heads for a bit about questioning whether they can beat top teams or teams who are strong defensively.

Well, they can.

Now let's move on to the fun games again please.

Didn't embarrass himself, but I don't think he's exactly what people like you have advertised. He's not exactly noticeable physically out there, is actually surprisingly weak on his skates in board battles, doesn't agitate or hit like I had expected.

I don't quite see a purpose here.

2 games, man. Kid is surely nervous as shit.

Thankfully the talking heads don't see the Islanders as the fraud they are.

I didn't think much of him when I saw him in the A either. He brings some of what the mouth breathers think we need, but not at a very high level while bringing nothing that we actually need.

I see him as a guy who can agitate, pop in goals and play well defensively. An ideal fourth liner, if he can bring it.

I'd really like to see a fourth line without Fredick Gauthier as well. The guy is pretty much void of puck skill.

Isles present a tough matchup for any fourth line but yeah I thought marchment was shit tonight. I'd like to see him in a few more games before I make my decision on him though, just because he does provide something a little different than the others (now whether that "something" is really that important, that's another story).
