GDT #44: 2025/1/11 - no excuses

Not sure why people are surprised. The team has played this type of hockey all season. We don’t generate much offensively, our PP looks lost and we rely on goaltending and a high shooting percentage on fewer high danger chances we get.

Just about every game looks ugly and like they aren’t trying offensively. If the team doesn’t get the goaltending, we basically will lose most games now vs other seasons where we can offensively get around that. Even though this team has a lot of the same faces as past seasons.

The GM is trying to build the team to play like this. This is a perfect low danger chances game in their mind that had the bounces go the wrong way. I think zeke has shown that even with all this defensive focus/dump and chance/lack of offensive creativity to keep the puck out of the net - our defensive stats are not that different outside of not having one of the worse starting goalies playing at least half the games each season.

Lets start the hate.

This team is a lost cause. Leading the division means crap. Scoring 69 goals in a season means crap. What matters is wanting to win the games and this failure of a team has shown time and time again that it does not care whether it wins or loses. The way they consistently underperform in the 1st period starkly shows this. It seems that the only thing too many of these Leaf players really care about is the size of paycheck they can get. The likes of Matthews/Marner/Nylander, sure they are skilled players at times but nary a one of them is willing to man up and take the fight to the other team. Instead they will just let other players push them around instead of instigating some physicality. A great way to get injured is to just sit there and take it. Pansies in a word. This team has lacked a natural killer instinct for so, so long. There is no soul to them. The younger players like Knies, Robertson, Dewar, etc need leadership to inspire them, to motivate them. But it just doesn't exist with this overpaid and useless core 4/5. Does Rielly inspire anybody? He needs to go. Domi??...pathetic. Holmberg?? Meh Kampf? Meh

When it comes down to it there are very few players on this team that have what it will take to get to a Stanley Cup and those players do not exist in the top 2 lines. Not even close. Thing is, if that desire to win isn't innate to your soul should you even be on the ice? Another lost year.

There really needs to be some major changes to this teams makeup. Paying ridiculous amounts to pretend hockey players will never cut it when playoff time comes around.

I guess that shows who the dumb fuck is.

I've quit smoking cigarettes and I've quit drinking too fairly easily. I think I'm gonna start shooting heroin just to see if I can quit that too.

I can't quit this shit called being a Leafs fan though, somebody shoot me for fuck's sake.

Does anyone think Berube see's that there is a problem here? Or all they just fat, dumb and happy with the status quo and don't give a damn about the people who shell out the money to keep this abysmal franchise going?
 
Are either of them standup comedians who are way less funny without a scripted act they've spent 18 months working on, and want to interview people slightly less interesting than they themselves are? I see a need for that out there as well.
