Sammy would have to seriously crater for Jones to be a viable option.

Hopefully Hildeby pushes his way into the conversation by mid season.

Play the shit out of Woll, obviously, but... no thanks, don't trade Samsonov.
 
It's also only been a couple of games.

Early to ditch Sammy for the kid with an even more limited body of work...and replace him with Jones.

Woll's my pick out of the two guys, and definitely the guy that should be getting the lion's share of the starts for the time being...but you still need two goalies. Not only in case of injury, but because in spite of their respective starts, there's inevitably going to come a time this year where Woll's play drops off a bit and Samsonov ends up being the hot hand for a while.

There is also not anyone on the Marlies currently qualified to be #2. Jones stinks and has stunk for years. He's here purely to be our "break glass in case of emergency" goalie and that's all he should be. Petruzzelli stinks too. Maybe Hildeby will eventually be that guy, but he's currently got one single game of North American professional hockey under his belt.
 
No reason to trust either of their goalies at all really. Samsonov has had years of NHL experience being a horse shit goalie. One good year is encouraging. He's young enough to figure it out. But the concerns that it was an outlier season are valid. And Woll was basically deemed a nothing goalie till last year.

I fully support trading samsonov and klingberg and going gun-slinging at the deadline like we've never seen... But you wanna see A) a longer stretch from Woll and B) a guy like Hildeby dominating on the Marlies. Then, I'm probably all-in baby.
 
yeah people really need to understand how bad Martin Jones has been the last few years. of course he could be the backup on a bad team, and he's a nice veteran presence as your #3 in case of emergency, but Samsonov still has way more upside and Woll still has much to prove.

we can certainly consider trading him in a few months if we need the salary and have another option. Until then, no.
 
There is going to be a time when Woll struggles where you need Samsonov.

Jones is a break glass in case of emergency sort of thing, and really after you break the glass there should be even more glass, or a message asking if you are really sure you want to keep breaking glass.

I'm surprised you'd even consider trading him, given that he's been mentioned in the same breath as Carey Price.
