GDT #60: please, freddy

Well, looks like Freddy will have a brutal save % again tonight. Not that he’s fully to blame here.

Not fully to blame, no. But in a tied 2-2 game, the Leafs got stoned twice by Hutton at one end of the rink on great chances, and at the other Buffalo beat Freddy like a dog twice. One on an okay chance (great shooter though, granted). The other a great chance by a guy on pace for 10 goals. The 5th goal Freddy legit had no chance on, entirely on everyone but him.

Best way I'd sum up tonight is that we played bad despite looking good for stretches and Freddy played bad despite looking good for stretches.

Weird, frustrating fucking game.

The penalty calling tonight was absolute bullshit and turned the game, to be sure.

But this was another game where the Leafs looked mediocre against an inferior opponent and somehow some way turned a game where we were in the third period with a good opportunity to put points on the board, and somehow it turned into a blowout in the space of a few minutes.

I hope the flu is still a major factor here. Because it'd be really nice if these guys could go on a run.

This flu excuse has been thrown around for like two weeks now. It's enough with that. Start playing like an elite team again.

As for Freddie, I'm a pretty huge Freddie hater, but I don't think he was awful tonight.

But that said, once again he was the second-best goalie on the ice by a considerable margin.

Hopefully Campbell starts Tuesday. And hopefully he gets a run of games if once again he plays well and wins.

But anyway they're still a real good team but haven't really played better than the top two dogs in their division very often throughout the year. We've seen them look like world beaters at time. They're capable. Just wildly inconsistent.
