Ok great outing against the very mediocre flames and all but let's see you put up a credible effort against the red hot Avs.

Avs (8-0-1) are the hottest team in hockey, skating circles around everyone, with Makar in particular stepping it up to a super elite level again.

They absolutely humiliated us last time fresh off the deadline in every possible way. The Leafs were without Tanev which is unfortunately huge for us but there's no excuse now. They better show they can play at this level.


And besides gameplay, the 2pts are massive. A win would get us back up to a tie for first (tho losing the tiebreaker) in the division and possibly as high as 6th in the standings. There are two easier games coming next against nyr and nsh but those are both going to be our 3rd gms in 4 nights, on the road, and the latter will also be our 4th in 6 nights, so those might be tougher slogs then you'd hope.


A good effort tonight could rekindle some hope pretty quickly. Another ugly effort could be a bit of a kiss of death.

We're on a 102pt pace mate and 9 of our final 15 games are against pretty junky teams. We're on a 104pt pace over our last 15 games. It would take some fucking collapse to end up with 97 points.

That was as likely to continue as the 8-1 stretch that came immediately before it. Even when you put those two stretches together, one very hot, one very cold you get 21 points in 16 games, a 108 pt pace.
 
Which junky 9 teams we gonna play?
I see only preds/flyers/detroit and Im not sure if buffalo will give up not because but despite
California trip is going to be tough one, remember our game vs sharks? Have you seen ducks playing lately and we gonna play them next day after kings

Rangers, Nashville, Philly, San Jose, Anaheim, Columbus, Montreal, Buffalo, Detroit are all varying levels of bad and we should put up points against.
and for every "oh, well Columbus plays well against us, so that game won't be easy" there is a game against Tampa, who we're 3-0 against this year, Los Angeles who we're 1-0 against, Carolina who we recently beat 6-3, etc.

Expecting 14 points out of a possible 30 is probably going to end up looking like a bad prediction.
 
my head goes with ME here but my heart was shaken enough by this pathetic last 6gm stretch that i can't dismiss @CRL 's projection out of hand.
 
This should be a good test to see if there is any, any hope that this team has any chance of a playoff run. If they can hold their own against the Avs and MacKinnon then we just might be a legit contender. I'm not holding my breath. It better not be solely Stolarz responsible for the win though. Doubt the goals are gonna come as easily as they did against Calgary.

their 9 shots are largely harmless bullshit but this still sucks.
 
ok shaky start but despite the shot totals that period was fine. we probably had the better chances.
