GDT #72: 2025/3/27 - blech

I mean maybe it's time to admit Robertson isn't that good. Sure they could do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed. The realgud ones make things like that an easy decision for a coach. He's certainly not as good as I had hoped.

Style of play and opportunity matters. 12 minutes a night on a team that plays a dump and chase style isn't going to get the best out of him.

I remember a bunch of similar arguments after the Sandin trade. maybe we're just shit at development?

Could be a bit of both. Doesn't have to be one or the other. Raz at least excelled as a super elite third pair d. Not sure I've seen Robertson be anything more than competent in any role at the NHL level so far. And even that may be generous.

NHL Edge:

2024-25
High Danger Shots
: 24 (<50th percentile)
Medium Danger Shots: 30 (64th)
Low Danger Shots: 16 (86th)

2023-24
High Danger Shots:
20 (<50th)
Medium Danger Shots: 26 (56th)
Low Danger Shots: 23 (90th)

He doesn't play like a good NHL goal scorer. Compare that to Knies (68 - 9th) and McMann (43 - 76th).

On a /60 basis Robertson gets to the net at the same rate as Marner.

iHDC/60 last 2 years:
Matthews: 6.22
Tavares: 5.16
Knies: 4.87
Patchers: 4.44
Nylander: 3.54
Holmberg: 3.53
McMann: 3.23
Krok: 3.18
Reaves: 2.71
Lorentz: 2.67
Marner: 2.53
Robertson: 2.39
Kampf: 2.23
Domi: 2.16

His shot is good, but not that good. If he wants to be an NHL goal score he's gotta get to the net more than Domi, Kampf and Marner. He's gotta play more like Hyman.

I have a hard time agreeing that Nick hasn't been given opportunity this year. Could he be given more top line duty sure, but he's receiving as much toi as any of the bottom 6 and it's comfy sheltered usage too. He should be excelling in that role.

annoys me that coach even called out Woll at all last night, even if he was bad, given that the team was outplayed for most of the game by the worst team in hockey.

RFA but the ideal offer sheet player
I always laughed at the constant idea by our media to upset Leaf fans that Offersheets are the next big thing, but Armstrong's move might really open the doors now. Blues timeline has been sped-up with the 2 they made.

OS to star or up and coming players make no sense as you would need a stupid offer to even convince the other team to not match

Only idiots like Bergevin hand out fair to below market money to Aho

But these secondary role players rotting on other teams why the fuck not put in an offer sheet in the right environment
