GDT: Canadiens @ Detroit Red Wings - Thurs Mar 24 - 7:30 pm ET

Prospect experts, GG, nbhab, Ben, GEEMAN and the rest, are you guys surprised with Hanley offensive game so far, is it an accident or he has some offense in him?

I think the California smog is affecting your vision for Hanley . If we didnt have 2/3 of the D out he would of been buried and never even heard of . The fact that we have to bring him up shows how weak our pool is .

A line with Desharnais and two players who should be in the AHL right now. Did you expect more?

Also hasnt played a game in 5 weeks. But he isnt going to get another NHL contract if he doesnt play with a bit more bravery, especially on the road.

Hell get a contract... just not one paying 3.5 million per year.

How many nhl contracts has scott gomez gotten?

Is he overpaid for a third liner? Sure

Is he this complete and total minir league calibre scrub hes been portrayed as by many (and im not saying you)? No hes not.

but its time to move on from 51 on this team its over Ben , no one can justify keeping him

Only because you can't buy a guy out and then sign him back to a cheaper contract. There is no way for us to get him on a cheaper deal... Same reason we should move on from Emelin and Eller too.

All three are overpaid, but are still NHLers.

Yeah i think it's time for Bergy to find a team to take Eller. Maybe a change in scenary would be beneficial for him. Maybe some teams would put him in top 6 and leave him there good or bad to see what happens.

Same for Emelin...

That's 7 mil of cap space. Then you can overpay for some of these UFA...because MTL will need to overpay it's no secret

I agree a team that can't score should dump one of the four guys on the club who will finish above 50 points. And one of the four legit top 6 forwards they have. He has to go.

DD is so bad. Worse then watching on tv. Gets pushed off pucks all the time.

Mccarron has hands of stone.
Mccarron Always has .
.Will never get confused with a sniper.
That's how he played with the London Knights-then Oshawa[Big factor in their Memorial Cup win].
A Big shut down center that can get some garbage goals[nothing wrong with garbage goals!

Forget his contract , he has no role on this team anymore even at 1 mil

Just like Cube years ago , temps de passer, la date d'expiration passé.

I don't buy that he has no role on the team if he had a cheap contract. He was fine as a third liner earlier in the year. Its only when we've tried to use him in a role he isn't suited for (the top 6) that his problems have been magnified and become liabilities.

As long as fuknuts is behind the bench you know 51 is taking his place on the top 6 with significant minutes on the pp and probably more minutes played than 27 .

We will have no issue replacing his points , no even noticed he was gone for 5 weeks and what fken pisses me off is it took an injury to 51 to finally give 27 his due on the top line .

We have to start dumping our slugs who dont fit moving forward on this roster . He has 1 year to go , dump him this summer with Emelin and start turning over this roster .

I dont see the relevance of his usage under therrien as i think its unlikely therrien will be back.

He needs to go... but its solely a cap space issue... nothing more. We need that 3.5 million in capspace for real top 6 talent

I have no idea how anyone could want DD on this team anymore. It makes no sense to me. Never mind that the guy is misused by MT.

We have 2 top 2 Centres:
Chucky
Pleks

We have 8 3/4 Centres:
Eller
Danault
Mitchell
Byron
Flynn
Hudon
McCarron
Desharnais

Not to mention... Management SHOULD be looking to upgrade.

He is a one dimensional player making too much money to warrant a roster spot. Even with decent numbers it is questionable that this guy would even be in the NHL if the Montreal Canadiens were not desperate for Francophone content.

If a guy who played top 6 minutes and didn't score a single goal for over a calendar year (Scott Gomez) can still get cheap one year contracts from multiple teams (San Jose, St. Louis, New Jersey, and Ottawa) simply cause he still has potential to put up 30-40 points in a third line role; then there is no doubt in my mind that Desharnais can at least get the same type of one year deals to play on team's bottom six.

I don't buy this not an NHL player regardless of the price stuff.

To me the salary goes a huge way in terms of the way he is viewed and his usefulness to the team.

I don't deny someone will be dumb enough to pay him now. Just saying that if the Habs never game him his 1st shot, I doubt he ever gets one.

And scoring 60 points once and 50 points multiple times... and 40 points even more times... proved he was worthy of being an nhler.

Tons of teams are looking for offence in their top 9 and a guy who can go on the third line and be 30plus points is welcomed on most clubs.

Just don't be overpaying for that.

Weve paid him too much money and played him too many minutes... but dont confuse him with an ahl scrub like darche or something.

LOL What?

-60+ once
-50+ once
-40+ once

He averages less than 50 points a season over his career (48.95) getting minutes and opportunity that he almost assuredly does not get on any other team in the NHL.

And without using the clutch word his production gets cut in half when hockey matters: .6 PPG in the regular season, .34 PPG in the playoffs.

Desharnais is a product of the Montreal Canadiens lack of depth at the centre position, period.
