GDT: Canes @ Bruins 4/9 7:00

And I love that the name, "Michigan goal," for the shot that Svech chose has stuck. It was probably a name for that particular kind of goal already, but "lacrosse style" was more ubiquitist at the time of his first one.

Really good game by the Canes. It's nice to see Svech back - he looked as happy and confident as I've seen him in months. I thought our D played an exceptionally good game. Pastrnak looked pretty frustrated and sh*t-hole Marchand was nearly invisible (except for a couple of dirty hits). Great win in a tough environment.

He's gonna be a very rich young man soon

(he says, as if $894,167 is chump change)
This will be one of many interesting things to watch going into the offseason. 3 year 'bridge'. 5 year deal? Svech deal for 8 years about $8 million AAV?

Necas also needs a contract, and he is arbitration eligible....

Nice solid win over the Bruins. We just smothered them defensively almost the entire game. It was a master class in how the Canes want to play.

The way this franchise has always talked about Jarvis, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the full boat this summer. Max years, big money.

Weird showing for Boston, I thought. Yeah, Carolina played well and their systems are very much designed to counter what the Bruins do ... but the Bruins didn't look especially up for it last night. Normally they bring the big heat against the Canes but they didn't have the starch for whatever reason. Marchand was fairly invisible, and Pasta's line got beat like a drum. When those two top lines don't get going, they are very, very ordinary.

Carolina has been able to keep Marchand in check very well the last few years. The playoff season Marchand had 1 point in Raleigh IIRC. I am surprised how well they kept him in check on the road this year though.

True, but Pasta's group normally ties the Canes in knots regardless of venue. Last night, they put more in their own net than Carolina's. If it hadn't been for Trent Frederic last night, Boston's chance generation would have been DOA. And when Trent Frederic is the only guy in your forward group who shows up in the mood, you're kind of screwed.

Marchand and Pasta played 15 and 14 minutes, respectively, compared to their averages of 19 and 20 minutes. Pasta didn’t play the last 6:38 of the game, coming off after Jarvis’ shorty and sitting the rest of the game. Marchand was also on the ice for that goal and played 1 more shift and was done with 3:10 to go.

Sure ... down three with 7 minutes left, pulling the stars is just pragmatic. My question is more ... where were they up to that point? A curiously detached game from Boston, I thought.
