So … do the Canes leave Vancouver with a very tall, very expensive Swedish center? Do they leave BC with a W? Is Andersen getting out of order starts as some sort of showcase? These questions and more will be answered on this episode of Canes After Dark.
Look. Vancouver is bad and is mired in the kind of season it’s frankly uncomfortable to watch. They’re not only last in the league, they’re 10 points adrift of the next contestant for the ball of used sock tape you get for finishing DFA. They traded away their best player, then they traded away their only hot player, their very good goalie is hurt for the millionth time, their current best player is mired in a multi-year funk, they’ve got several other various and assorted injuries. It’s ugly. Like 2002-03 Carolina Hurricanes level bad. Oh, and they’re on a 6 game losing streak.
I’m not up for this one, honestly. Carolina’s going to try and get over whatever they were doing with possession on Monday night, and will presumably start Bussi unless something’s going on. Otherwise, maybe KK plays, maybe not. Who knows? Vancouver is on schedule for Lankinen in net, and before you go remembering the cool, collected and competent veteran backup version of Kevin Lankinen … he’s had a rough one playing behind a terrible defense. Some dude named Nikita Tolopilo is the other option and no … I’ve never heard of him either. He's put up decent numbers considering the circumstances.
So, hey. Tune in or don’t. The Canes have generally had a hard time pumping up the give a crap for these kinds of games, so this could be REALLY ugly. My professional recommendation is to check the score in the morning and then decide on watching the replay or not. It’s one game. You’ll live.
