The Canes head north on I-95 for a visit to the swamp.

The Canes saved it until late last night, scoring 3 goals in the 3rd to pull away from the Flyers. Necas saw his streak end, Aho took over as the franchise leader in game winning goals. Jack Roslovic scored his first goal in 2 weeks, Jalen Chatfield had his first of the season. As unlikely as it seems, that leaves Brent Burns as the only skater without a goal. With Kochetkov going last night, Spencer Martin gets a chance to follow up on his shutout against the Sens.

The Devils are almost as hot as the Canes, 7-3 in their last 10 but coming off a 4-0 loss to Tampa. They’re well rested, have last played on Saturday. Nico Hischier leads with 10 goals, Stefan Noesen is right behind with 9. Jesper Bratt has 14 assists. Brett Pesce has been limited to 12 games and is considered day to day. The Devils solved the goalie problems that have plagued them by trading dman Kevin Bahl and a 1st round pick to the Flames for Jacob Markstrom. He’s at 2.58/.907 in 14 games. He's backed up by Jake Allen, 2.30/.916 in 7 games. The Devils are 8th in goals per game, 7th in goals against. They’re 5th on the PP and 8th on the PK.

Canes will be fatigued, Devils might be rusty. Could be a messy performance on both sides.
Canes will go with Martin in net, Devils do have a pretty solid offense to throw everything at him, if there might be a game on this road trip the Canes might struggle it's this one for me. The Dandy Don game Saturday in Columbus is the one you would like to have, 4 out of 6 points on this roadie would be swell.

This kind of setup usually results in two wildly different periods in the 1st and 2nd frames. The team that played the night before usually has the upper hand early and teams that have sat around usually need a period to find their game. Could be a weird one.

Just hit him hard a few times early. Dougie too. Cuts their effectiveness in half.
Poor Dougie being hit too hard and he folds like a tent at times, I still have that playoff memory far too close in my head of him doing a full stop-no thanks-I'll pass when Ovie was all over him in that playoff series several years ago.

Brett Pesce on playing his former club...

Familiarity cuts both ways and Pesce's not as sure on his feet as he used to be. They'd be wise to keep him away from Aho in particular. He LOVES to carve up old friends. For the most part too much gets made out of this stuff, but some guys REALLY bring it against old clubs ... Trocheck for example, has a long, long memory. Dougie, not so much and we'll see what we get from Pesce.

Trocheck was, is and always will be a warrior. Dougie and Pesce not so much.

Then you have Lindholm and Haula that get owned every time we play them. Hoping Pesce joins this group.

Elias Lindholm and Kotkaniemi are also guys who light up like pinball machines when they play their old teams and nobody's ever accused either of them of being particularly warrior-like. Not consistently anyway. Some guys are that kind of petty, some aren't. I don't see it as a plus or minus either way.

Tonight’s officials:

Referees:
Jon McIssac #2, Pierre Lambert #25

Linesmen:
Dan Kelly #98, Jesse Marquis #86

The Canes are a perfect 12-0 with McIssac over the last 2 seasons. But on the flip side, they were 1-4 with Lambert last year and 2-1-1 in 22-23.

Kudos to the Devils' in-house entertainment crew for playing Dexter & The Moonrocks' "Sad In Carolina" when the Canes took a penalty.

We got hosed on the 5v3 goal but it didn't cost us.. Ghost's penalty was at 18:46 of the 1st, and Noesen's goal came at 0:47 of the 2nd.. Apparently Ghost got 2 minutes and 2 seconds for high sticking. Staal should have been let out of the box on the goal

(NHL revised it to 0:46 ... same thing that went in our favor vs Ottawa, but still...)

Only in the NhL do you get lengthy reviews and they still get it wrong.
