GDT: Canes @ Flyers 11/20 7:30

Still got a few Sherwood sticks, though they've seen more action relocating & dispatching copperheads than rink time these days.
It's always fun seeing the Hurricanes win in Filthadelphia. Aho has it working and how about Chatfiled with a two point night. Bummer for Necas ending his point streak. Kooch was a flubed mishandle on one shot away from a shutout.
On to the swamplands.

Eddy never misses his chance to get a dig or two in at the Canes on the National Broadcasts and always makes sure to mention Francis as the reason why they are so successful...it was cute maybe once or twice but he just cannot seem to move on.

And it wasn’t a pure nepotism hire, Francis hired Olczyk away from Edmonton where he was also an assistant GM.
Guys like Ricky O can spin loose family or old boys club connections into long term careers in NHL administration. They do it all the time. But Carolina runs a much more streamlined front office and there's really no room for those kinds of people here. When Ronnie left, he HAD to go too. He never should have been hired here in the first place.

Eddie O 100% should never be allowed to work another Canes game, and the fact that multiple networks have decided that it's OK for him to literally sharpen his axe on the franchise on national broadcasts just goes to show how little those networks and producers actually care about the quality of their product. It's amateur hour stuff.

OK, the game ...

Shame that Kooch had that one goal slip by him, because he played well enough and the D played well enough in front of him to collectively deserve the shutout. Philly's not exactly offensively potent, but either way Carolina really put a weighted blanket over the D zone. In the O zone, it took the Canes a while to get traction, but that's been a trend against Tort's teams during Brindy's tenure. Say what you will about Torts, but his teams never make it easy for you. Aho has been playing salty, ticked off hockey for a while now and it was only a matter of time before he had a game like that. Dude was a hot knife through butter last night and whoever was on that line was just kind of along for the ride. Also, yet another really strong game from the Orlov/Chatfield pairing. Forget the dopey goal that Chatfield got like some sort of prize in a cereal box, they were everywhere last night. Cutting off angles, getting to loose change quickly, deflecting passes, keeping their gaps. A freaking master class.
