GDT: Canes @ Habs 4/16 7:00

Canes are dead meat unless Kochetkov plays the type of game he hasn't played in a very long time. I guess I should say we SHOULD be easy pickings for the Habs tonight. But again, the Habs better not let us score the first goal tonight or finish the first period tied.

Kochetkov hasn't goalied anyone in about a month. He has allowed 3 or more goals in all of his last 6 starts. 4.06 GAA .830 Sv% over those 6 games.

So he is either due for stellar performance or is absolutely cooked. Obviously the team in front of him tonight will make a stellar performance rather difficult.

I think you will be fine tonight Habsy.

Just need a point. Doesn't have to be a win.

I'm disappointed that it has come to this but I'm proud of the Habs for continuing to fight when they were written off many times this season. Ultimately it's good experience for the youth (youngest team in a playoff spot) moving forward. They need to see just how hard it is and just how important consistency matters.

Future looks bright. Fowler is now in the fold and will likely be the goalie of the future. Reinbacher is finally healthy and looking very good on the back end also. Hage playing very well in Michigan and Demidov looks legit.

Just have to dump some dead wood the next couple of years as the contracts expire.

Still need a second line center, Dach is better suited for the wing.

I was looking at Roslovic but noticed that he's not playing center for you guys, can you shed any insight as to why?

The Canes were using him as more of a goal scorer than a playmaker and he seemed to provide more offense when he was playing the wing. Add in that we already have Aho, Staal and KK playing center that left him with more games playing wing than center when he was playing in our top 9.

Roslovic probably is good enough to be the Habs 2nd line center at the moment, but I think any team with Roslovic as their 2nd line center is going to not be happy with the result. He can play 2nd line center if necessary, but I wouldn't want him to be my 2nd line center if I had a choice. Not strong defensively.

I want to target Duchene for 3 years until Hage is ready. I'd take Granlund as a consolation.

Duchene is going to get himself paid again which would make me nervous given how much better he seems to play when he doesn't have a big contract to live up to.

That said, Duchene or Granlund would be a much better idea for 2nd pair center than Jack Roslovic. I would call Roslovic a perfect top 9 floater guy. He can contribute in short stints as a 1st line winger or a 2nd line center. But I wouldn't want to rely on him as a regular in my top 6.

Roslovic's decent overall numbers this season for the Canes were a result of an early season heater playing on Aho's wing. Since January 1st Roslovic has only 4 goals and 9 assists in 42 games playing up and down the lineup. He is -10 over those 42 games, far and away the worst +/- on the Canes over that period.
