The great Canada tour ends in Winnipeg.

It feels like they’ve been gone forever, but the Canes have only played 3 games on this trip so far. They’re coming off a 4-0 win over the Flames that featured 2 shorties by Warren Foegele. Julien Gauthier had his first NHL point, assisting on McGinn’s goal. He was sent back to Charlotte after the game and Brian Gibbons was recalled. Erik Haula met the team for some fun in Banff and practiced yesterday but will not play.

in many ways, Winnipeg is a mirror image of the Canes. They have identical records, have the same number of ROW and both are 3rd in their division. The Canes have scored more goals and allowed fewer. Mark Scheifele leads with 15 goals and 35 points. Kyle Connor and Nik Ehlers both have 14 goals, Patrik Laine has 21 assists and 10 goals. Connor Hellebuyck is 10th in GAA at 2.34 and 5th in save % at .930. He’s started 25 of their 33 games. Laurent Brossoit has started the other 8 with less success, 3.22/.892. Their PP is 19th at 17.6%, their PK is bad, 28th at 75.3%, last at home at 72.5%
 
There's one very simple stat that illuminates why the Canes seem fairly satisfied with where they are and the Jets seem disgruntled despite identical records ... team goal diff. The Canes are +21 while Winnipeg is +10. With 20 wins and a +10 differential, that means a fair number of rather significant losses and those tend to dampen the mood, even when the big picture isn't all that bad. A quick look at their schedule and ... yep. Sprinkled in there you find some real ugly results.

Be that as it may, the issue for Carolina matching up against the Jets over the last few years has been freaking Hellebuyck. He's like a prairie version of Lundqvist to this crew. That being the case, best to get an early goal and settle the nerves. Winnipeg's D group is ... umm ... not great, so clawing through their trap to get some offensive zone time against those guys is key. It's hard work to play against Maurice teams, so go ... work hard.
 
With big trees like Myers and Big Buff gone from the back end for the Jets, I no longer see the Jets being the same big and rumbling team that plays the physical game like they use to the past couple of years. The Canes patient approach in Calgary was a textbook road game plan that worked to a T, it would be nice to see the same kind of approach with a little bit better of a start in the first period.

No. They don't pound you in the defensive zone like they used to. They still trap the air out of the neutral zone and make it tough for teams to gain their blueline though. That part of the formula hasn't really changed based on the couple fo viewings I've had this season. They're a bit more nimble, but play much the same game.
 
Haula practiced again today but won’t play. Michael Smith says Mrazek in goal.

Canes get a PP goal from Wallmark but give up a goal to Roslovic with 7.4 seconds left to finish the first tied 1-1.
 
Aho from Turbo, 2-1. Almost an exact replica of Aho’s 2nd goal against Minnesota.
 
That was even more ridiculous than the first Svech lacrosse goal. On the move around the net and you do that??!?!? 🤩
