The last really late game of the trip.

The Canes exploded for 4 goals in the 3rd period on Tuesday to come from behind and put away the Sharks. Jarvis had a pair of PP goals, KK had a couple of assists and Skjei continued his torrid start and leads all defensemen in the league with 6 points. And, in Aho’s absence, RBA conjured up a new 1C with Turbo playing center for the first time since March 2017. He did well in the circle, winning 11 of 18. The team’s practice yesterday included Andersen, but Kochetkov was recalled from Syracuse as a precaution. And it was radio silence regarding Aho. We won’t know anything until the morning skate.

The Kraken shocked the league last year with a 100 point season, a 40 point improvement over their debut. They made some noise in the playoffs, taking out the Avs in the first round before going down to the Stars in 7 games. This year isn’t going as well. They’re winless in 4 games with their only point coming in a shootout loss to the Blues. They’ve only scored 3 goals, 1 each against the Knights, Blues and Avs, who spoiled their home opener on Tuesday. Matty Beniers, who won the Calder last year, has been held off the scoresheet, as as Eeli Tolvanen, who provided an instant boost when he came over in a waivers claim from Nashville last season. The defense is aging, only Vince Dunn and will Borden are on the right side of 30. They signed former Canes prospect Brian Dumoulin as a free agent. Philipp Grubauer has started and lost 3 games and is at 2.71/.909. Joey Daccord lost to the Blues in the shootout in his only appearance.

Bally Sports South for TV.

Seattle has a solidly built roster, but basically everything fell into place for them last season. A lot of personal best shooting percentages, a lot of injury prone guys playing a full schedule, some good players producing well above their norms ... it wasn't luck, but they absolutely benefitted from some unsustainable performances. Most of the time when a team goes on a season long PDO-fueled rampage, it's the goalies who drive the results but the Kraken got nothing from their netminders and still set the Pacific on fire. Of course, it didn't hurt their cause that everybody else in that their division features two tank/rebuilders and two teams that fell off a cliff last year. They're balanced and well drilled though. Nothing is ever easy playing Seattle.

Aho ... I figure with Svech still out, they won't want to risk anything. If he's playing tonight it's because whatever he hurt is healed or is protected enough to not risk further damage.

When will they ever come home so I get to see a game soon. These west coast journeys are a nightmare.
(I can check the schedule myself, I just want to be a bit hyperbolic)

I'll go as late as I can hang on. I may seek Seattle's feed to catch John Forslund's call...if I can stand all the Kraken nonsense. I'm recovering from kidney stone surgery yesterday (ouch is right), so nobody expects anything out of me until next week. My sleep patterns are way off due to pain/meds, we'll see how it goes.

My Dad emailed me a ridiculous Kraken article by some Seattle tool claiming how the Hurricane's goal tenders were sucking, had pretty much forgot how the game is played, and Carolina should be ripe for the picking. Even called the Hurricanes fools... (o.k., sure about that, winless?) He neglected to include that the Hurricanes have scored more shorthanded goals than Seattle has scored total goals period. So, I offer him a giant glass of STFU and will spare everyone here by not spreading his drivel. My Dad thinks it would be good bulletin board material for the team, I doubt the players give a {Polar's word} what some knucklehead keyboard cheerleader's opinion is.

Go Canes!

Walt Ruff said that both Aho and Andersen skated this morning, although Aho skated with Drury and Lemieux on a limited basis. So it’s probably 11/7 again tonight. Raanta in goal, if Andersen isn’t 100%, he’ll sit and Kochetkov will back up.

Time for #CanesAfterDark episode 4 (or maybe Ep. 3, does Anaheim at 8:30 ET really count?) ..... Let's go Uncle Antti!

Kraken score on the PP. Schwartz got behind Skjei and Pesce and was by himself at the top of the crease.

Schwartz had all day behind our D and beats Raanta.
Not a good penalty that Noesen took :( Especially as we are gettign called for holds all over the place.

Kraken get a shorty, 3-1. They’ve doubled their season goal total in the first period.
