The Canes get back at it with 2 games north of the border. As a reminder, they’re 6-3-1 in the last 10 and coming off a 7-3 win over Utah the last time out. The boys that played in the tournament came away with mixed results. Finland didn’t win a game in regulation, Rantanen had a goal, Aho had 2 assists. Jarvis was held off the scoresheet but came home with a gold medal. Slavin came home with a silver and showed the rest of the world what we see every game. The latter 2 didn’t practice yesterday but RBA expects them tonight. Tyson Jost is back and centered the 4th line in practice. Kochetkov was listed first on Walt Ruff’s practice lines yesterday but we’ll see who plays where at the morning skate.
The Leafs are 6-4 in their last 10 and lost to Vancouver their last time out, which broke a 3 game winning streak. They have 68 points and are 2nd in the Atlantic, 3 points behind Florida with 2 games in hand, 2 points ahead of Tampa. They had 3 players in the tournament, Mitch Marner had a goal, the OT winner against Sweden and 2 assists. Auston Matthews had 3 assists and showed off a 200‘ game. William Nylander had 2 assists. Nylander leads with 33 goals, Marner has 55 assists, tied for 3rd in the league, his 71 points are tied for 4th. Marner, Matthews and Nylander all average at least a point per game, Tavares is just under. In goal, Joseph Woll has started 29 games, he’s 2.65/.909. Anthony Stolarz returned just before the break from a knee injury that kept him out for 6 weeks. He’s started 18 games and is at 2.08/.929. It will be interesting to see what they do in goal the rest of the season. The Leafs are 12th in goals and goals against per game. They’re 12th on the PP and 13th on the PK.
