GDT: Canes @ Pens 3/22 3:00

Josh Yohe is like a lot of sports beat writers these days. He’s a decent enough writer for his outlet, but goes full fanboy on social media interacting with fans on social media. IMO 90% of those writers don’t even realize that they’re doing it. They try to build engagement on social media but if you stick to actual commentary instead of going full homer, you just end up arguing with people you want to eventually pay for your work.

As a professional writer, the LAST thing your credibility needs is for you to be arguing in public with some rando calling himself GoW0606 or whatever. Honestly, better to just post links because that stuff makes you look like a moron

OK … game thoughts. Not many to be honest. I was on the road and ended up speed watching when I got home. Looked like the beating that Carolina had been threatening to hand to the Pens over the last couple of weeks. That Pittsburgh forecheck never really got going and that’s what had been keeping them in games with the Canes … and most everybody else, honestly.

Nice to see a solid effort from Freddie, without glossing over any issues. He looked good. Full stop. The Pens lost their composure early and never really seemed to get it back. The idea that Carolina is a darks arts practitioner is sort of hilarious though. You’ve seen Tampa? Right? This ain’t that. Still, solid enough effort and a message sent to a potential playoff opponent.

And since it's on Twitter, that rando user is probably going to be named 88SSWiteRaceSuperiorSS88.

Heard the 2nd period on the radio and watched the 3rd at home. This was a very good 60-min effort by the Canes. The Pens were obviously flustered, and it showed. Freddie was also very good - his puck handling was minimal and effective. Right now, he's recaptured the #1 spot.

I missed most of the game because we got free tickets to see "Stereophonic" at DPAC. It was not good. Left after the first act (with a good chunck of the audience). I was looking forward to seeing this play, too.

We saw it on Tuesday night. It was overly long and, despite the fact that it’s a “play with music” and not a musical, I was disappointed that there were so few songs, especially since the entire play takes place in a recording studio.

And FWIW, the song they cut in real life was “Silver Springs”. It was Stevie Nicks’ breakup song. Lindsey Buckingham’s break up song, “Go Your Own Way” did make it and was released as a single…with ”Silver Springs” on the B aide. It was their first top 10 single.

Aside:
That's what drove me away from Twitter. I had built up a great feed of super smart people, those with advanced degrees and authored books on interesting subjects and it seems like overnight their posts were full of responses from brand new bluechecks that were pretty much nazis just gumming up conversations. I moved to Bluesky, but 90% of the people there are left wing scolds, yelling at people for posting about music or sports when there's a genocide happening. Maybe Twitter has their shit together again? I just got really turned off by the users there. The block button gets too hot to the touch from using it so much.
:Aside over

Adam Gold wannabe...LOL...no greater arguing in public on social media guy than Gold...he actually seems to have more energy to do that than his actual job.

It's insufferable! He even throws arguments out there that are demonstrably wrong but he just clings to them for dear life because it's engagement. Yuck.

Amen. You could have a few good folks you followed on Twitter but eventually they would delve into something political and all the noise from their followers starts filling up your screen.

That’s the nature of social media. It tends to be an echo chamber or an argument.

Occasionally I’ll post a reply to a stupid person’s stupid post, but mainly just post my photos because my publication requires it. But, mainly, I don’t even open it anymore unless I have too. So much disinformation and lies and what’s even more frustrating is the amount of people that actually believe the blatant lies. It’s terrifying where society is going. I hear educated people talking about this stuff and they’re just too lazy to do their own research or too weak minded to have their own educated opinion. It’s easier just to believe the first nonsensical statement they see in writing. Hey, he has a blue check mark, must be right.

But shouldn’t this be in the miscellaneous thread at this point lol

Social media was a mistake! LOL Seriously, I think this is the only community that hasn't really changed since its founding back in the '90s. Other than us getting older and all the bullshit that goes along with getting older. On the bright side, I can once again pee like an 18 year old three beers in.

Here’s to peeing like an 18 year old! All over social media!
