The Canes close the back to back in Dallas.

After falling behind 2-0 last night, the Canes roared back to tie it in the 2nd, only to give it back before re-tying it in the 3rd then getting the OT win. Freddie Andersen returned to action and, even though he allowed 2 goals in the first, kept the team in it with a couple of 10 bell saves. Andersen had 10 saves in the first but the Canes limited Chicago to 13 shots the rest of the way. Jarvis had a shorty and KK got them back in it after some hard work behind the net by Robinson. But Burns fell asleep and left Donato wide open to give up the lead. Staal tied it on a goal where seemingly no one could find the puck except him and ref Carter Sandlak. Then Necas to Aho in OT and it was game over. Slavin finished with 3 assists. The Canes won’t skate this morning, but expect Kochetkov in goal.

The Stars are 3rd in the Central, 1 point behind the Wild but ahead on points %. They’re 7-3 in their last 10 and coming off a 4-1 win over Detroit on Sunday. Roope Hintz leads with 19 goals, they have 7 players with more than 10. Matt Duchene and Jason Robertson each have 27 assists and Duchene is nearly a point per game player. Tyler Seguin is out for the season after undergoing hip surgery in mid-December. Jake Oettinger carries the load in goal, having started 34 of their 46 games. He’s 6th in the league in goals against and tied for 9th in save %. He’s backed up by Casey DeSmith. The Stars are 9th in goals per game and 4th in goals against. They’re a surprising 18th on the PP but have the top PK in the league, just ahead of the Canes.

National TV tonight on ESPN+/Hulu.

Wasn't great but the compete was there. Andersen looked fine for a guy out for 8 weeks. It'll be nice if we can get that stability back in net, maybe even win more than we lose for a while. Honestly think the Canes might pull this off tonight and lose to the Jackets instead.

Tonight's game is a very big ask as the Stars are 7-3 in their last 10 and the Hurricanes are underwater on the road this season. Any team can beat anyone on any night, so let's hope that the Hurricanes are the "Any team" and the Stars are "anyone" tonight.

Well, they were hot as a 2 dollar pistol a couple of weeks ago, but they cooled off once they ran out of a string of patsies that the schedule served up.

Last night was a milestone game for Andersen and Staal, tonight is one for RBA. Tonight is his 500th game as head coach, he will become the 5th active coach to play and coach in 500 games and only the 2nd, along with Lindy Ruff, to do so with the same franchise.

Sounds like a HOFer to me...

Koochie to steal one would be nice, the legs might be an issue tonight and Dallas always seems to play a heavier game with Benn, Marchment etc…

Reason #1,763 why ESPNs hockey coverage sucks. This is the thumbnail image on their site for tonight’s game.
