GDT: Canes v. Bruins Game 7 5/14 4:30

The agony of a game 7.

The Canes faced the Bruins 3 years ago today, in game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. And Jeremy Roenick stopped by our tailgate. So the game ended poorly, as did Roenick’s career 7 months later. The Canes practiced yesterday, Martinook skated, but isn’t expected to play, the same lineup is expected. We know what they need to do. They know what they need to do. It comes down to execution.

The Bruins? Who cares.

First to Five goals wins the series... Go Canes.
Yeah, this has turned into a 1/2 scale softball series for some reason ... "first to 10, wins" will get you a Rec League trophy every time.

Keys ...
Play better than last game

Play about the same as Games 1, 2 and 5

Keep your goalie clean

Done. Seriously. If the Canes put their heads down and just do what they've done on home ice three times before in this series, then everything's gonna be fine. If they get sucked into playing Boston's stupid game, then not so much. So, just mind your own knitting and play hockey boys.

Today’s officials:

Referees:
Chris Lee #28, Steve Kozari #40

Linesmen:
Jonny Murray #95, Ryan Gibbons #58

This is a new pairing. Lee worked with Freddy L’Ecuyer including our game 4 in Boston. Kozari worked with Kyle Rehman.

Standby officials: Trevor Hanson #14, Andrew Smith #51

Lee was the "silent partner" in Game 4, so nothing learned there really. Then again, he's a lazy sod, so he's generally going to defer to his partner to do the actual work. Kozari is a wildcard and can be unpredictable. I'd prefer predictable, obviously ... but it's better that L'Ecuyer isn't working this game. He's predictably clueless and prone to getting suckered by the likes of Boston's veteran dirtbags.

I don't think Carolina needs the help of the officiating crew, really. But it's better to avoid a crew that will lose their minds and get sucked into any manufactured drama. These two are unlikely to go down that road.

I will be there with you only in spirit, as it looks like my two-plus years of successfully avoiding The Rona has come to an end. Still testing negative, but I haven’t had cold symptoms as severe as these in recent memory. A Canes win will certainly help my spirits!
There's still a lot of flu going around too. We're seeing a lot of it the last two weeks.

That’s what I’m afraid of most, getting sucked into the Bruins stupid game and getting away from the Canes game, and if the Canes can get an early goal and ride that crowd it’s going to make things a bit easier to stick to their game. I’m just not ready to put a lid on the Canes season today so that only leaves one choice…just win baby…like the young kids say…Let’s F’ing Go!!!!
