GDT: Canes v. Canucks

We left at the under 6 TV time out. Wade was a mess, the Beltline was OK, as were Glenwood and Creedmoor south of 540. But it’s changed over to freezing rain, tomorrow is gonna be a mess.

We stayed until the end. As andyt mentioned, Wade avenue was pretty messy. My home is the opposite way on 440...South on US 1 to 55 Apex/Holly Springs. The new bridges that get you from Wade Ave. past Hillsboro St. and Western Blvd. onto 440 were not well cleared and most of US 1 until 55 was a mix of packed ice and some slush with rain falling. That said, I didn't have any issues actually getting home driving around 40 MPH on the highways. The local roads were good enough.

I agree with andyt....if the temps drop anymore the roads are all going to be icy messes tomorrow. Fortunately the temps are supposed to hang right around 30 degrees overnight, which is warm enough that the brine will keep things from freezing solid. But I am glad I have absolutely nowhere I have to drive to tomorrow.

The Canucks are a real mess on offense. They pretty much generate nothing. That isn't just against the Canes, they are 31st in the league shot attempts at only 25.4 per game. I again consider the Canes lucky that they did not trade for Elias Petersson and continue to hope they don't acquire him, especially with that big new contract. He is NOT worth anywhere near what he gets paid.

I'm a ways from any freezing weather r/n but am hoping for a weather/roads update north of I-85, as we will be coming to the area on Sunday afternoon. I'd appreciate any info, as the news reports are mostly blather and how to stay hunkered down and how the grocery stores have fared. So, Thanks in advance.

I've been doing my best to follow the Hurricanes games, but internet connection and constant power have been an inconsistent luxury to me for a bit.

My daughter had no issues navigating from Holly Springs to Morrisville via 540 this morning at around 9AM. Highways are generally ok, just watch for the bridges and overpasses. Bright sunshine and 40 degree temps today should help.

Good win for some tired bodies. Rest up for tomorrow, which is sure to be an emotional game.

We’re getting a good melt on my street, I imagine that some of the major roads could be driven dry today so they don’t refreeze.

My daughter was supposed to drive up from Wilmington for a wedding dress fitting but she postponed it because we didn’t know what she’d face on the way. It was supposed to be just freezing rain on the other side of 95 and we thought the roads would be bad.

Heck, our neighborhood's little dusting mostly melted on hard surfaces before sunrise today. Now it's just wet. It was pretty last night I guess. My dog had never seen snow and he went slightly bonkers on his nighttime outing and the rabbits all came out of hiding. Otherwise ... non-event.

Those boys were gassed and still outworked a rested team that sat in Raleigh last night and watched the Canes play. That is tough sledding to do back to back.
Vancouver looked absolutely lifeless last night, aside from Hughes. Whatever is going on in that locker room, it ain't good stuff. I mean, thanks for the gift and all, but maybe try getting your crap together

Martinook getting an x-ray after the game. That would be a huge loss.
Looked to me like he blocked a pretty sharp shot that hit him right above the boot. He also took one in the butt cheek, and either of those could be an issue.

Yeah something is off and the Canucks are going to probably send someone out to clean it up. The rumor mill says it’s between Miller and EP40…but that team looks nothing like the way they looked most of last season.

They play @Toronto tonight, I can't imagine that is going to go well for the Canucks.

I dunno. I've seen bits and pieces of their games recently and they come and go. You'd think they'd be fired up to play the Leafs, but when the locker room is fractured you never know what you're gonna get I guess. They looked like a broken team last night, but they looked perfectly fine (if frustrated) against Washington on Wednesday when they dropped a nailbiter.
