The last game before the All Star break/bye week.

The Canes were good early and held on against the Devils on Thursday. Raanta had a good night in goal, only victimized by a blown defensive assignment and a puck that pinballed in with 3 seconds left. We’ll see who goes in goal tonight, Kochetkov was activated off IR and could play.

The Coyotes have hung around the periphery of the playoffs most of the season but have hit the skids lately. They’re 4-5-1 in their last 10 and have lost their last 2. They have 49 points in 47 games and have lost touch in the division, 15 points out of 3rd place but only 4 back in the Wild Card. Clayton Keller leads with 20 goals and he and Mattias Maccelli have 25 assists. Connor Ingram has played 31 games in goal and has been good, 2.59/.916. He’s backed up by Karel Vejmelka who is 3.47/.896. The Yotes are 20th in goals per game and 15th in goals against. They’re 13th on the PP and 19th on the PK.

Black jerseys tonight. It’s the Hockey Talks game too. Bally Sports South for TV.

Ugh! The black jerseys *again*. Stop that and go back to the red. The red unis are much better, the sightless eye is exponentially better than the 2-flags-on-a-stick, and most importantly, we don't have storm squad members waving giant flags with flags on them when wearing the red. Just say no to recursive flag flags.

I don't hate the black jerseys, but I always wondered if, during a split-second decision, our players have ever tossed a puck toward a referee or umpire because they saw a black shape in their peripheral vision. OK, I know...dumb.

Raanta is in the starter’s crease at the morning skate. Kochetkov is in the other crease and looks like he’ll back up tonight. Martin just got on the ice and is stretching by himself.

After that last game, there's no way I'd be playing Raanta tonight. Brother is made of freaking eggshells and he obviously tweaked something on Thursday. If Kochetkov isn't ready for real, then I'd have zero hesitation to just play Martin tonight and then use the break to get everybody healed up.

The Yotes have been involved in a lot of argy bargy and general weirdness recently, which combined with their recent results is a pretty good indication of a lack of focus. There's a reason why GMs talk about "culture change" and don't just focus on putting together a better roster. Teams with sketchy, weak leadership get off track easier than those who can focus up and keep their minds on the important stuff.

They blamed Raanta’s discomfort on Thursday on cramps. But it looked way worse than that.

Ingram in goal for the Yotes.

Yeah, even if it was cramps I'd still be sitting him tonight. Not because he's some sort of precious asset or anything, but having 3 available, heathy goaltenders should be a priority. Also, he tends to throw out a stinker every 3 or 4 starts.

And for those not following Arizona closely ... and why would you ... Ingram has been really, really good for them. It's not like they went out and improved the group on D or anything. He spent the first third of the season pretty much standing on his head every night. That guy flipped a switch when he was forced to play in the playoffs for the Preds a couple of years ago, because up until then he'd been just a run of the mill minor league goalie.

I'm surprised too that Raanta got the nod tonight. I would have liked to watch Martin get another game to see if he can be a reliable 3rd for us.

I won't be at the PNC tonight....I think I'm coming down with the same bug my hockey buddy has and I don't want to spread it around. Go "Canes!

Huge F-up with my ticket transfer tonight. My friend got the email, but got an error message. Then I cancelled the ticket to try and transfer the tickets and parking pass to another person, but the app won't let me do so. So, I gave my grandson my phone to carry into the arena with him.

Some friends had problems getting in, the box office told them that Ticketbastard crashed.

Canes look like a team playing their 3rd game in 4 nights and/or looking forward to 9 days off.
