The homestand continues against the Habs.

The Canes put forth a poor performance against Nashville on Tuesday, losing 3-1. They should get Svech back today, he skated on the 4th line with Robinson and Jankowski. That‘s an intriguing combo, good speed and size. Svech also skated with PP2. We should see Andersen in goal.

The Habs are in the 2nd wild card, 1 point ahead of the Isles and Rangers, 2 ahead of Columbus, 3 ahead of the Red Wings. Only the Isles have a winning record over their last 10. The Habs are 3-3-4 in their last 10 and 0-2-2 in the last 4. They’re coming off a 6-4 loss in Philly last night. Cole Caufield leads with 34 goals, There are 12 skaters with at least 10. Nick Suzuki has 52 assists, 1 more than rookie dman Lane Hutson. Suzuki is averaging better than a point per game, Hutson leads all rookies in scoring and is only the 5th rookie dman in NHL history to have at least 50 assists. We’ll see Sam Montembeault in goal tonight. He’s at 2.93/.898 in 53 games. The Habs are 15th in goals per game, 27th in goals against. They’re 20th on the PP, 12th on the PK.

Black jerseys tonight. FanDuel for TV.

So, Montreal is in straight up grind mode. It's been a minute but some long term Hurricanes will be familiar with that feeling, and playing those teams in the spring is never fun. They know every point means something and they aren't giving up on anything. Of course, they also tend to be gripping the stick a little too tightly, which opens the door to chances when they grind a little too hard.

Frodo decided to lean on Montembeault in net a few weeks ago after Dobes early career spell wore off a bit, but I think he over-did it. Montembeault seems to have hit a wall and dropped 4 straight decisions in mid-March. Dobes finally gave him a break in their last game and didn't do any better. Losing to the Flyers in their "we're finally free from Torts" game last night was a rough one, and the Canadiens will be both tired and salty tonight. Could be fun, could be a mess. We'll see.

The lines at the morning skate are as they were at practice. Andersen is in the starter’s crease.

Jarvis - Aho - Blake
Hall - Kotkaniemi - Roslovic
Martinook - Staal - Stankoven
Robinson - Jankowski - Svechnikov

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker

A few interesting decisions to make with Svech back, but for now it's safe enough to get him back in the swing of things with 4th line usage.

Keep Svech on4 to start, I like that.

The bad news is a win tonight sort of helps the Rags, but it's the team who shall not be named so let's keep the streak going. According to Habs Reddit, their last reg win in Raleigh was 2016.

I like Svech on the 4th until he gets all the way back up to speed. It should limit the time to inflict bonehead penalties. A goal and assists should help his confidence.

No Koochie hopefully means no freebies and no brain farts, Habs played last night so no excuses from the Canes on energy level, empty the tank against a tired team.

Yeah Dobes lost but it wasn't on him. The Habs have hit a wall and their D zone coverage has been horrible with missed assignments everywhere. I'm not expecting much tonight. Unless Montembeault channels the second coming of Price this one might be another laugher.

From an outside perspective it looks like to me that these next 3 games are basically Montreal's last chance saloon. If they want to make the playoffs, then they'll bring all they've got tonight. And with absolutely nothing for Carolina to play for right now, it's probably gonna be a weird one.

You know if I know a refs name not thanks to @andyt it usually is not a good thing (tm) you'll notice he didn't post the refs today
Didn’t see them until I was in the parking lot. Long day at work, my day turned to the brown stuff right after I started the thread.
