GDT: Canes v. Islanders 2/13 7:00

Another day, another divisional game.

The Canes trail the Islanders by 6 points now, in 2 more games. While the Canes are at home for all but 2 games the rest of the month, the Islanders are on the road for 8 of their next 10. The Islanders are on a 3 game winning streak and are 6-3-1 in their last 10.

Canes might still be without Faulk today. The team isn't skating until game time, so he'll be a game time decision again. After his performance the last 2, we could see Ward in goal again.

Another day of Stanley Cup activities before the game. Stanley will be at Crabtree Valley Mall from 12-1:30 and then on the concourse again until the end of the 2nd intermission. The parking lot opens at 3:30 but there is a NC State basketball game starting at noon. Doors open at 5:30 again and there will be a pre-game ceremony honoring the 05-06 team. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:15.

Fox Sports Carolinas for TV.

Expect the ice to suck ... basketball at Noon does that.

Expect the crowd to be less diluted with opposing fans, but not completely. Still - should be better than last night.

Looking forward to the atmosphere at the PNC tonight. Hope we have pretty good attendance to honor the '06 veterans. Should be a festive atmosphere, but we need to start winning with some regularity. Even though the odds are against a playoff appearance again this year, this is a different team to watch and you get a real sense of us moving in the right direction.

A loss tonight firmly plants the Canes into the "seller" category. No two ways about it. A win, while good for the home crowd, hopefully doesn't cloud Francis' vision. I wonder if Staal has provided a list of teams he'd consider?

Saw the pre-game on ice celebration with the 2006 team. I guess it's safe to say LaRose is done with hockey? He's gained a LOT of weight! I very honestly had NO idea who he was until his name appeared on the screen.

Nestrasil gives the Canes a 2 goal lead.

Then Versteeg taps in his eleventh to make it 3-0

Then Nestrasil again! 4-0.

And of course Tavares scores for the Isles. He's playing, isn't he?

Then they score again on the power play.

Rask jams it in on the power play... 5-2. Then again just as the period ends to make it 6-2.

That was the Bush PAC telling us how bad Rubio is.

Do the Canes have the Atlanta TV market now as well? Or did that go to Nashville ?

Given the Cup party and the decent crowd, it's not a bad idea to put on a decent show against a pretty good opponent. And it's really good to see the young guys contributing in a very big way.

Jersey beat Philly in OT, so the Canes temporarily jump over the Flyers in the standings. Whether it helps much or not is open to discussion, but for the moment, the Canes are only 3-4 points out of the p.......

Great crowd tonight and the pregame show was a real trip down memory lane. Great win (although the game was not nearly as exciting as last night's). It may not be this team's year, but I like where we're headed. Keep it going, Canes.
