GDT: Canes v. Kraken 10/26 7:00

The Canes kick off a brief 2 game back to back homestand before hitting the road. Again.

If there was any good news that came out of yesterday, it was that we might see Svech return to the lineup tonight. We could also see Andersen return. Other than that, the news was bad. Pesce will be out 2 - 4 weeks after having surgery on Tuesday. Gleason paired TDA with Skjei on Tuesday in Tampa and had Orlov with Chatfield. Whatever happens with those pairings, it might be a good thing for Orlov to get settled with a consistent partner.

When the Canes and Kraken played in Seattle last Thursday, the Kraken had only scored 4 goals on the season and were winless. The Canes cured both problems as the Kraken busted out for 7 goals. Since then, they lost at home to the Rangers and started their east coast swing with a stop in Detroit on Tuesday, winning 5-4 in OT. Jaden Schwartz leads with 4 goals, Vince Dunn has 6 assists. Last year’s Calder winner Matty Beniers hasn’t gotten untracked yet, he hasn’t scored a goal and has 3 assists to go with a team-worst -8. They lost Andre Burakovsky to an unspecified upper body injury after taking a hit from Jacob Trouba. He had surgery and is out 6 - 8 weeks. We could see Philipp Grubauer in goal tonight, Joey Daccord started on Tuesday. Grubauer is winless in 4 starts and has a 3.04/.896 stat line.

Red jerseys tonight, the first of 13 appearances. Bally Sports South for TV.

Hopefully the home ice will give Carolina much needed boost. I concur that Orlov needs to get settled in and soon - it took Burnsie a month so hopefully we'll see Orlov getting into a grove in the next week or so.

The news on Pesce isn't ideal, but the way RBA was talking yesterday I thought it was going to be months, so 2-4 weeks suddenly doesn't seem so bad - it could be a preview of what to expect next year anyway.

Just throwing this out there for discussion...with Pesce out, and Orlov not fitting well at all with TDA...why not put the D pairs in the blender and make some balance. Slavin has played an entire season with TDA in the past, it probably was TDA's best ever showing in the league that year. Why not something like Burns/Skjei, Slavin/TDA, Orlov/Chatfield. In terms of righty/lefty pairings that balance all three out with what you are working with right now for the next several weeks that seems to make sense.

That wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world…

No morning skate today, so we won’t see a lineup until about 5. But that also lessens the possibility of Svech playing, I think. They’d want to see how he recovered from yesterday’s practice.

Keep in mind that Orlov is comfortable playing on his weak handed side. He's done it a bunch, as recently as last season. Just giving you something else to spin on.

Kochetkov was sent back to Syracuse this morning so it will be Andersen or Raanta tonight.

But if he was sent back this morning (wink, wink) but ultimately dresses today, there is nothing to bank, right? Wouldn’t he have had to be sent down yesterday to bank a day of cap space?
Correct ... except this club has been particularly loose with announcements on roster moves.

Tonight’s officials:

Referees:
Carter Sandlak #29, Brian Pochmara #16

Linesmen:
Tommy Hughes #65, Killian McNamara #93

The refs and Tommy Hughes followed the team north from Tampa.

Orlov was paired with Skjei and Chatfield with TDA. So 2 guys playing their off side.
