The Canes look to extend their winning streak to 5.
Coming off a game that should have been a shutout against the best in the league Jets, the Canes try to extend their 4 game winning streak. The new guys fit in well, Mark Jankowski had an unlikely brace, meshing well with Roslovic and Robinson, and Stankoven scored a PP goal, tipping a Ghost shot blue line from the top of the crease. And Scott Morrow got his first NHL point in his first extended action of the season. But Svech left early with an injury and didn’t practice yesterday. Orlov has an undefined upper body injury but practiced yesterday. RBA tinkered with the lines at practice, swapping wings on KK’s and Aho’s lines. Jost practiced in Svech’s spot. If the goalie rotation holds, we’ll see Kochetkov in goal.
The Bolts are flying, Saturday’s shutout loss to the Bruins notwithstanding. They’ve won 10 of their last 12 and have climbed to within 3 points of the Leafs for 2nd in the Atlantic with a game in hand. They’re not that good on the road though, just 14-14-2. Since February 1, they’ve only played 4 of their 13 on the road. Nikita Kucherov is closing in on his 3rd straight 100 point season, he’s 3rd in the league with 92, 2nd in the league with 64 assists. Brayden Point and Jake Guentzel are tied for 7th in the league with 32 goals. Brandon Hagel has 30 goals and is headed for a career-best season. Andrei Vasilevskiy has started 50 of their 63 games in goal and has his 8th straight 30 win season. He‘s also having his best statistical season since the Covid shortened 2020-21 season, at 2.25/.921, both 2nd in the league behind Hellebuyck (who gave up 3 to the Canes on Sunday). The Bolts are 2nd in goals per game, 6th in goals against. They’re 6th in the PP, 10th on the PK.
Note the late start time. Black jerseys tonight. ESPN+/Hulu for TV.
