The red hot Red Wings come to town.

The Canes look to welcome Necas back into the lineup, he’s had 2 full practices since the last game. He‘s been skating on Drury’s line but also worked into PP2. Kochetkov also got on the ice with goalie coach Paul Schonfelder but didn’t practice with the full squad.

The Red Wings have yet to lose in regulation this month, they’re 6-0-1, beating the Kings twice, the Leafs and Panthers, the latter coming on Wednesday night. They’re tied for 4th in the Atlantic, 1 point behind the Leafs. Dylan Larkin has 18 goals, only 9 at even strength. He’s averaging more than a point per game. Alex DeBrincat and old friend Shayne Gostisbehere each have 23 assists. Gostisbehere leads with 18 PP points, 16 of his 23 assists are on the PP. Ville Husso went down with an injury in mid December so the Wings goal is tended by old friends Alex Lyon and James Reimer. Lyon has been on a tear, 5-0-1 this month with a 2.62/.927 stat line. Reimer has only played once this month, beating the Leafs with 2 goals allowed on 30 shots. The Wings are 4th in the league in goals per game and 22nd in goals against. They’re 14th on the PP and 13th on the PK.

Black jerseys tonight. Bally Sports South for TV.

The offense has been there all season in Detroit, and with Lyon finally having taken over in net they've stopped leaking soft goals. That makes a huge difference, as the hot streak attests. Stats-wise their expanded graphs look a lot like those of the Hurricanes. Two forwards having wonderful play driving years (Larkin/DeBrincat vs Aho/Jarvis) and a big whack of guys having solid positive impact seasons. Carolina's support crew measures out a bit better than Detroit's, but their goaltending has leveled the playing field.
