The battered Canes return home for a weekend back to back.

The Canes sandwiched a dominating win over Vegas between bad losses in Colorado and Utah. Worse, they lost Kochetkov and Jarvis to injury. Neither are expected to be long term, but neither will play today. Yaniv Perets was recalled to open the bench door, Ty Smith was recalled to keep a seat in the press box warm. Necas’ point streak was extended to 11 games but the team’s streak of 9 straight games with at least 4 games was halted.

The Sens have 17 points in 16 games and are tied for 4th in the Atlantic. But they have points in 3 straight and 4 of their last 6. Despite their record, Moneypuck inexplicably gives the Sens the 5th best odds to win the Cup, behind the Canes, Panthers, Devils and Stars. Brady Tkachuk leads with 9 goals, Tim Stutzle has 14 assists. In addition to those 2, Drake Batherson is averaging a point per game. Bruins refugee Linus Ullmark has started 9 games in goal, he’s at 2.77/.890. He’s backed up by old friend Anton Forsberg at 2.72/.905. The Sens are 11th in goals per game at 3.44. They’re 16th in goals against. They also take a lot of shots, 3rd at 32.9 per game. Their PP is good, 6th at 29.6%, the PK is mid-pack, 17th at 80%.

Black jerseys tonight, FanDuel for TV

Usually, we have a decent comeback after a lackluster performance, like the one in Utah. But our goalie situation makes that much more difficult this weekend. We knew going into this season that we were rolling the dice with our current goalies, and hoping that as long as they stay healthy, we would be OK. That was risky, knowing Freddie's history and Pyotr's inconsistency. Hope the team can step it up tonight, we're gonna need it.

Kochetkov is skating this morning but working as the 3rd goalie. Martin is in the starter’s crease. Jarvis is not skating.

Svechnikov - Aho - Roslovic
Robinson - Kotkaniemi - Necas
Carrier - Staal - Martinook
Jost - Drury - Blake

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker

Carolina has usually been pretty good a circling the wagons in front of a less than dependable goalie ... for a couple of games ... so long as they know the guy sucks in advance.

The bad news is that Ottawa doesn't actually suck anymore, at least not reliably. Ullmark has solidified things in the back and they've got two proper forward lines. The D ain't great, but it's no longer a trainwreck, and weirdly enough Travis Green has them playing an actual repeatable system. They're still a .500 club, but in a much less volatile way.

I’ll be watching this from my comfy hospital bed. I finished chemo and radiation and conveniently came up with sepsis and cellulitis. Likely be here a few days.

Feel better soon. I'm thinking healing thoughts & hoping the hospital meals are tolerable (or you have someone to bring food in for you).
I hope you don't have to yell at the TV from today's game.

hmm. This seems vaguely familiar to me. Oh yea, that’s right. Same thing was said last year. Uggh
