GDT - Caps @ Leafs | Beginning of the post-Carlyle-era | 7:00PM EST TSN

I'd say no. I'll ask you one now... would the Leafs possibly be better off without a captain than one players maybe don't respect?

The letters themselves don't really matter. You need to have the leaders in the room though.

Just because the Habs didn't name a captain, doesn't mean they don't have one. Or two, or three...

Yep, that hits the nail on the head. I'd also add that you need solid leadership from guys at the top of the lineup too.

There's only so much supporting pieces like Roman Polak or Stephane Robidas can do.

Focusing on leadership instead of talent leads to Clarkson signings.
You need both. I don't have a problem with bringing in guys like Roberts or Nieuwendyk, for example, in part because of the leadership they provide.

It's when you bring in bottom-of-the-lineup guys like Komisarek, Clarkson or Armstrong to provide leadership where you run into problems.

Who said to focus on leadership instead of talent?

You need talent. You need leadership. Really you need players with both. Teams need a lot of different things.

Your skilled guys have no real leadership qualities which is fine IF your low skill guys have leadership qualities. Seems like your team has neither.

Lupul, Gardiner, Reilly as he is too young, Kadri and Kessel aren't leaders.

Leadership is a skill like anything else. Maybe some peoples personalities are more naturally adept to being leaders. But leadership can be taught, developed and learned.

Agreed, but the reverse is also true.
Putting the "C" on the jersey of a guy who can't lead, or who has no respect in the room, is detrimental to the team. When we're struggling in a game, you expect your captain to take the initiative both on the ice, and on the bench, to fire up the team and get them working together as a unit.
This current lineup has no such person, and very few others who fill that role.

What?? Bernier had an off night?? Can't be... lol

I can't believe anybody would fault a goaltender for what happened that night...but if you actually listened to the interview you'd know he wasn't talking about Bernier, he was talking about the idiot line change and Kadri skating by his check.
The fourth goal? Maybe that was weak, but what was he supposed to do about the first three? Between Reilly just skating off the ice during a rush and Clarkson just watching the whole thing, to Kadri whispering in his mark's ear instead of battling, how the **** does anybody even mention the goaltending?

I guess he was supposed to predict Franson's deflection as well. Jeez, you guys are dumb.

I know it's not just you blacksheep, but since I dislike you so strongly (and right back at me) I went with this post.

It can also lead to Roberts signings. How quickly some forget.Lack of leadership leads to guys dogging it and doing brilliant things like planning on snubbing fans or skating around the entire rink lipping off all the officials. This team has too many children and not enough adults.
