The Latest: Co-leading the NHL in standings points and wins, the Anaheim Ducks (46-20-7, 99 pts.) open a five-game road trip tonight against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden (4:30 p.m. PDT, NBCSN/AM 830). Anaheim arrives on the East Coast pacing the NHL with 17 wins when trailing at any point in the third period (Calgary ranks second with 11), including its last three games vs. Nashville (March 15, 4-2), Los Angeles (March 18, 3-2 OT) and Colorado (March, 3-2 OT). The Ducks have won four straight games (4-0-0), are 11-4-0 in their last 15 games and have scored 29 third-period goals in those 15 contests (1.9 per game). The Ducks own the second-most wins through 73 games in franchise history, trailing only the 2013-14 club (48-18-7). Anaheim also has the most standings points (46) and wins (21, tied with 2013-14 club) through 35 road games in team history.

Among Western Conference opponents, the Ducks have the top intra-conference record with a 32-9-5 mark for a .750 points percentage. The Ducks are 16-3-0 vs. the Central Division, leading NHL teams in wins and ranking second in points percentage (.842). The club is also 16-6-5 vs. the Pacific, having won five of its last seven (5-2-0). The current road trip will also make stops in Columbus (March 24), Boston (March 26), NY Islanders (March 28) and New Jersey (March 29).

Ducks-Rangers: The Ducks and Rangers conclude a two-game season series tonight at Madison Square Garden. The Ducks have won two of the last three games vs. the Rangers, including their last visit to MSG on Nov. 4, 2013 (2-1 win). All-time, the Ducks own a 16-7-5 record vs. the Rangers and 7-4-3 road record. The season series opened with a 4-1 Rangers win on Jan. 7 at Honda Center. Tomas Fleischmann's 13 points (4g/9a) in 24 career games vs. the Rangers lead all active Anaheim skaters.

Ducks team scope: The Ducks (99 points), who lead the Western Conference, have won four in a row following a 3-2 overtime victory against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Rickard Rakell tied the game midway through the third period, and Corey Perry scored the sixth overtime goal of his career. It was the third straight game and NHL-leading 17th time that Anaheim overcame a third-period deficit and won. "I thought we played really good in the first period," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We were tentative in the second period, and in the third period, they were pretty desperate. They took it to us a little bit, but once we got behind, something kicked in." Sami Vatanen played for the first time since he sustained a lower-body injury Feb. 15. His 12 goals and 35 points lead Ducks defensemen. Anaheim is 29-1-7 in one-goal games.

Rangers team scope: New York has won seven of nine games in March following a 3-2 shootout victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Saturday. Goalie Cam Talbot made 28 saves through overtime, then stopped all three Carolina shooters in the tiebreaker to help the Rangers complete a five-game season sweep of the Hurricanes. "The last couple weeks we haven't played our best hockey, but we've still managed to win," said Zuccarello, who scored the only goal in the shootout. "That shows that we're a good team. Hopefully we can come back to playing our style now." Talbot has started 20 of 22 games since Lundqvist was sidelined because of a neck injury in early February. He is 6-1-1 with a 1.11 goals-against average and .963 save percentage in his past eight starts. The Rangers (97 points) lead the New York Islanders by five points for first place in the Metropolitan Division. They trail the Montreal Canadiens by two points for first place in the Eastern Conference but have three games in hand. The Rangers have three games in hand on the Islanders and Canadiens.
