GDT: Eastern Conference Final, Game 1 Canes v. Panthers 5/20, 8:00

Olzcyk is such a petty little man…the guy just won’t let it go. I counted 19 times he waxed on about Ghost shooting the puck at Marchand…guy is a joke every time he works a Canes game! #Ricky

No mention of Ekblad’s fore arm to Blake’s head after he scored though.

Hmmm... the team got their ass handed to them in this one that's for sure, and Florida didn't even seem to have to break a sweat to do it. That was extremely disappointing considering how good the team has been so far in the play offs, but the reality is that Florida is a much better team and it really showed in this one.
I have to question why Morrow was in there and getting paired up with Ghost. I don't think it cost the game or anything but it contributed to it for sure.

I thought this game would be close - it wasn't. Florida excelled in almost every area, while we fell short. Their goals were perfectly placed and ours looked like they were trying to knock the panther off Bob's chest - if they were near the net at all. I wonder how this will affect the team psychologically, considering the last playoff sweep with the Panthers - I've sure been thinking about it.

The Canes have to rely on depth scoring from all 4 lines. And too often 3 or 4 of those lines can't produce. The "checking line" was terrible last night and got completely ran over and tossed around like ragdolls. The 2nd and 3rd lines hid in the locker room. The top line played chase all night. Will be a short series if this isn't corrected.

Yeah, that sucked. The 4th line got caved, Hall's line was a mess and the Canes looked both rusty and like they have been playing a lower caliber of opponent. Both of which are decidedly true. Freddie also rolled out his worst showing in these playoffs by far, not that I'd hang the L on him. Look, the effort was there. In fact, I thought they came out too jacked up and went too hard at the physical stuff. That's just not Carolina's game, and when they settled down and got into their normal patterns they were able to generate chances. But everything was just going too fast for the processors for a lot of that game. Florida was damned near inch perfect aside from whatever the heck snapped in Marchand's pea brain there in the 3rd.

I'm sure Game 2 will look different, but if they don't take care of the details better then the result might not be. Time to tighten up

I watched the game with my 90 year old mother here in New Orleans. Her initial comment was the two teams looked so much better than the Caps and Leafs. Then the Canes got exposed and she was like that black team needs help.

I must have been wearing homer glasses all year, I didn't realize the Canes have been dirty, running goalies and injuring people all season. And now, in the 3rd round it's there on display for the world to see. The media today.....

I don’t ever think I would consider the Canes as a whole “dirty.” Has dirty been operationalzed by the league? I think I remember some Canes players that played with an edge— Jeff Skinner was hell at a slew foot (that’s kind of dirty, though), Joni Pitkanen sure could use his stick and then there was Tim Conboy, a bit of a head case. Now, I find Svechnikov the same kind of player as Tuomo (not Jarkko) Ruutu— a young physical player who is a bit edgy. And really, was there anything the Canes did that Florida has not done?!

Ghost shooting the puck at Marchand didn’t bother me one bit. I’m not sure I saw it the same way Edzo did…It did remind me that even the great Alfredsson could get chippy and had no reservation of shooting the puck at Scott Nedermier during the finals.

Both Marchand and Ghost were in the wrong. Marchand went way out of the way skating 100 MPH to try to obliterate Ghost near the boards after he had long gotten rid of the puck and got just a small piece of him. Then Ghost decided to clearly fire a puck directly at Marchand. Both of those were dirty plays.

The Media focused on one not the other, and I have no issue whatsoever with the Canes going hard at Bob, after all it was Florida that took out Stolarz game one in the second round and let’s not forget Timo Meier on Freddy. The league encourages this stuff while turning a blind eye most of the time so the players say screw it!

I found the Canes got away from their game by ramping up the physical play too much last night and I think the happy medium is somewhere in between being physical to match the Panthers while still being able to focus on what the Canes do best style wise.

BTW…nice forearm shiver to the back of head by Ekblad on Blake on the second Canes goal…no mention of that from the media.
