GDT: Eastern Conference Final, Game 2 Canes v. Panthers 5/22 8:00

My Friend, I wish you a similar outcome! I will send everything I can for support! And it's more than you know! - Allen
Thanks Allen, keep up the good work. It is like have a job doing this stuff. Just know I am sending high energy thoughts, and prayers with positivity for your recovery also.

They say I have a 96 percent over 5 years with this, but they have to be very aggressive. I'm still in good shape so they're hitting hard. Lost lymph nodes in one side of neck with scare now from my ear lobe down to the base of my neck over to the center. I couldn't count the staples. Oh and let's get those tonsils and saliva glad while we're there. Then pulled most of my teeth, and put a feeding tube port in since I can't chew and my not be able to swallow again for a while (remembers tonsils) for future precautionary measures. The guns had to heal a two weeks before getting into chemo and radiation. I'm marking every water and Jevity to keep weight up and flush the poison away.

I have been pushing them with a "let's go positive" attitude. I'm moving a little slow right now and hopefully back to more of whatever normal is now by around August.

BTW: This IS the best Canes board with the most insight in the world. Real inside information, real discussions, from the best NHL fans in the world. I don't miss reading a post. You guys are GREAT!!!!
GO CANES!!!!!

On Nikishin…. I’m thinking the language issue is bigger than you’d think especially with a guy trying to learn the system. If you can’t explain things on the fly in a game then that seems like it would be a problem. It also seems like Brindy being Brindy but if he’s upset about the language barrier why didn’t he learn some Russian? We have 4 Russians on the team now right?

In Brindy’s mind 11 and 8 are our best players. I also remember his last couple years as a player where he just wasn’t getting it done but kept on playing.

I feel like we need to solve the issue of why Rantanan didn’t want to be here. Or Guentzel etc. Or why so many players we pass along end up being so effective elsewhere. Forsling, Luostarenin, etc.

Wishing you the best, KTown. It’s good to have you back posting here and look forward to many more years of you doing so!

Look. Nikishin played already so there's no point speculating. He looked absolutely overwhelmed and that was against the freaking Capitals. Screw the language barrier, the speed of the game was too much for him to process. Given a training camp and some pre season games he'll be fine. This ain't that.

I thought Jake wanted to be here, but the front office was dragging their feet too long?

That's the story he told the press. Up to you if you believe it. Tulsky has simply said that negotiations dragged on too long. Problem with all this stuff is that players, their agents and the team all give different, plausible, versions of the same events. That's why this concept of "getting to the bottom" of a situation is a lot like fool's gold. There's a version out there to support everybody's own opinion. Unless somebody acted dishonorably, then I don't see the value in getting bogged down in details

Whatever it is needs to be fixed though. Doesn’t matter what the issue is it needs fixed.
What if there's no one thing that needs to be fixed and every one of these negotiations went awry for their own unique reasons? Because that's absolutely what happened.

You say.

If guys wanted to be here they would be. Fox, Aho signing offer sheet, Guentzel, Rantanan. They didn’t see being here as enough of a priority, or they saw drawbacks to being here. Or our negotiating process is problematic? Our system isn’t attractive to stars? Bottom line they didn’t want to be here. Maybe because of games like tonight where we show a total lack of guts. Florida knows they can bully us and we just take it.

So what's the one thing that needs to be fixed then?
I suspect none of us is in a position to know that. But it’s why Necas wanted out or Rantanan didn’t want to sign here. Or maybe more accurately why they didn’t see playing here as even an option they would consider or in Guentzel’s case why he didn’t wait for the Canes to get things together. If we were his top choice he would have waited. But instead he had other options he felt were as good or better for him so he didn’t.

The Canes have without question been one of the best teams in the last 7 or 8 years but never really one of the best teams in the playoffs. Maybe about 5th to 7th best? Maybe our system isn’t fun to play - it’s a lot of lunch pail type work, and or that elite players don’t think we’re a legit contender and aren’t willing to play our system when they don’t think it will pay off in the end. Or that they see our leadership as lacking guts maybe by design. I mean Aho getting hunted down and body slammed gave us a power play - that’s good in our philosophy - If Burns or Staal or Orlov or anybody over 200 lbs had jumped in it would be 4 on 4. But the end result is guys like Jarvis and Blake or Aho know they have to take care of themselves because nobody’s coming to the rescue when a player literally 3 inches taller and 34 lbs heavier is after you. In their head? You betcha that’s in their head. Tchuck told Aho the whole game he was coming for him.

I don’t know what it is but there’s something about the Canes that makes us a secondary level destination for elite talent and I think it’s not about market/geography. You just don’t have a team that is theoretically a contender or at least a player or two away that guys want to not play for.

Once a player decides there are other teams he’d prefer to play for, or even be just as happy playing for then all the secondary reasons factor in.

I went back and watched footage from last night where Tkachuk chased Aho around for an entire shift, cross checking him, punching him, trying to trip him, etc. That debacle went on for WAY too long. And Ahos teammates all watching it and just letting it happen means one of two things: the entire team is a bunch of pussies, or they hate Aho enough to watch him get his ass beat and think "screw that guy, I don't like him anyhow". I don't see a 3rd option. But that's a locker room with massive issues, either way.

Here’s a third option: the coaching staff told them not to bite on Tkacuk’s antics and they listened. Or they decided themselves they were going to try to stay disciplined because Florda’s PP is lethal. I can think of some other options if you want.

They were down 4 with minutes left right? The game was over. If Tkacuks antics are beating up your 1c somebody has to bite.

I get the feeling Brindy is slightly perturbed that Nishikin can't speak a lick of English. He's known and planned on coming to North America for several years. An couldn't be bothered to at least learn basic hockey lingo in English? More than once Brindy has commented on his absolute lack of any English. That's why he's not playing. Would it have been unjust to expect him to take it upon himself to learn a little?
I'm on an almost 1100 day Duolingo streak in French. And I barely speak it worth a dang. I can read and write it, but I have zero people I can have a conversation with in French so my ability to hear and comprehend, formulate a response and say it takes forever.

If that's the reason RBA kept him on the bench, I would add that to my "issues with RBA this season" list.
It's amazing what you can pick up with pointing and stick taps since SKA has transitioned to a Canes-esque style of play.

He didn’t need much English to connect with Stanky on Monday.

I lived and worked in France for three years. The only French I knew was ‘I’d like a carafe of red house wine and two glasses, if you please‘. That is all you need.
