I heard it gets so hot in AZ that pool water just heats up like a bathtub so you don't get any cooling benefit from taking a swim.

Yeah it's the first place I ever heard of pool coolers.

My pool was probably around 90-92 this summer (without heating it), not very satisfying, but still better than 115.

My “pool” is a lake in the Canadian Shield.

But it has two benefits: it wakes you right quick and it ends hangovers.

Also, no gators or murderous water-borne snakes.

Also… firm policy: a sliced drive off the fairway stays out of bounds. Take the penalty and consider it a lost ball.

when we were at the Grand Floridian this summer, the signs said don't go in the lake as live "animals" were present, I took the advice. I asked the boat driver if she had seen a gator, she said a small one a few weeks earlier but she was from Louisiana so no gator in Florida scared her but she was afraid of the snakes.
 
You get used to it, they really are more afraid of you than many know.

No other species is as deadly to gators and snakes than humans and they instinctually know.

Although pythons are now killing them in greater numbers.
