GDT | Game 24 | @ Broooons | Sunday, December 1st | 4:00 PM

Then perhaps Molson should have studied NHL rebuilds a little better because as they're almost entirely draft-dependent and draft-centric for teams not called the New York Rangers, they take a LONG TIME, not three years. He signed off on this three years ago, so he'll have to endure a few more. Just look at the standings. There hasn't been much movement at the bottom in a good while. There's a reason. NHL rebuilds take too damn long.
Even if Montreal was a destination, Habs were saddled, and still are to a point, with bad salaries. You have to open the wallet and have to strike when the opportunity arises. Habs should have acquired Jiricek. They had the assets. Habs have to take the next step to lure worthwhile UFA when they are available as well.

I’m not sold on Jiricek. I’d rather go for a more established player.

Also there is barely anything worthwhile in the UFAs next summer.

UFA is where the majority of your mistakes are made

The once a decade Panarin isnt picking Montreal and a waste to overpay the left overs

Draft and develop your own or pick up vets with short term contracts on strapped teams where you give up minimal

Jiricek is well worth the gamble at the right price

Regimes need to retool every year , understand where you are in the NHL food chain and act accordingly

We are not behind the scenes as to what mandates are but teams typically are good at kicking the can down the road

" Not my problem if I get fired just trying to save my job "

The NHL is the worst of the big 4 sports to manage your roster/cap and complacency kills you

Most rebuilds take long because regimes wait too long to make tough decisions and your praying the draft gods are on your side

Habs never had to be in a tear down if executed properly

Not big on free agents either but we’ll need some experience and stability at the blue line, someone that can play top 4.

I would take a look at Chychrun in the summer.

Marner is also UFA as is Rantanen.

The one center I would kick tires on depending on price is Sam Bennett.

Not much to choose from this coming summer.
