Yeah, and? Split between however many rookies there are. They can easily afford it and it's a one off. They'd rather be paying for an expensive meal in Vegas as NHL players than riding a bus to Utica chugging bottles of Genny Cream Ale on I-81.

I remember reading about Detroit Rookie dinner and bill was 40K. THey only had a couple rookies and the cards got declined. Lidstrom ended up paying of it.

I remember similar stories of Nilan and cohorts racking bill up baclk in 86 then letting rookies off the hook.

I've also heard that management often steps-in to ''cover'' a good chunk of it.....it's the ''deal'' to allow them to still do these dinners (heard it from someone that used to work for team)
