When was the last time the Habs had a player, non G, who “changed” the way a position was being played / role of that position thought of?

NHL also has the best scouting & coaching, as the games ramp up intensity over next 6-8 weeks w refs starting to keep their whistles in their pockets longer, will be interesting to watch how opposing teams game plan Hutson and if & how long it takes the player to adjust to the adjustment

If Hutson makes process look nearly flawless… watch out

Hutson has look great (as has Matheson) since the Huston-Matheson pairing was formed. Don't see that changing too much . . . but we'll see.

I heard an interesting stat, Matheson is 60th+ amongst Dman for giveaways and that’s for someone playing upwards of 25TOI / game. Doesn’t match the hysteria of being a giveaway machine…

The hysteria comes from his bad games and when he's bad he's just really really bad. Almost no in-between with him
 
My take is that Matheson has great mobility and has the skills to be a good rushing d-man but tries to do too much and ends up being sloppy. But if someone else does the rushing like Hutson he can defend reliably. Kind of like Subban was.
 
He's definitely gotten better playing there that's for sure. Skating is a huge reason.

What I like about the tandem is that if teams try to take Hutson away then Matheson will burn them. Keeps them honest.

I can’t think of any imperfect offensive d-man in the league that doesn’t suffer the wrath of their local fan base…. People are reluctant to take the bad with the overwhelming good.

Regardless of last years pts total, I don’t really consider Matheson an offensive Dman but more a mobile puck moving D
