GDT Game 45: VS JETS, Tuesday, January 17, 7:00 PM EST

????

Of course STHs (real ones, not corporations) knows the players, and I'm not sure how many are giving tickets away, I'd bet very few. They sell the games they can't go too and hopefully break even or make a bit a money. And I have no idea what you are talking about for bars and restaurants, you don't think a drop of 20% in attendance over 41 games matters to them?
The downtown core has patrons who will eat and drink not related to hockey events

The city is flooded with yutes who live there and hang out

20K or 16k , the hardcore fans will dine locally if they want to

Centre Bell will sell less dogs and merchandise

and fans,,, oh sorry, "fuck the fans"
Real fans don't give a shit about meaningless regular season wins in seasons where there is zero chance of winning a Cup. Real fans support tanking for the greater good. Only babies who demand instant gratification give a damn whether the team wins a Tuesday night non-conference game in mid-January. Embrace the tank and tank in as tanklike a fashion as possible.

Exactly. This is the same bullshit we hear whenever some huckster wants the taxpayers to build his team a new stadium. They always talk about the bump in business for nearby restaurants and bars. But it's a mirage. No new revenue is actually generated, it is merely redistributed. Money that doesn't get spent in a bar near the Bell Centre just gets spent elsewhere. It's the same reason why casinos don't generate revenue for surrounding businesses. Because money that might normally be spent in a restaurant or grocery store winds up in a one armed bandit machine instead. It's not "new money" unless your parking lot is full of out of province plates. But since every city in North America has a casino or three nowadays those parking lots are nearly all the "Je me souviens" variety so this is just a redistributing of existing money.

The only ones who suffer if attendance at Habs games drops is the Habs concession stands.

Businesses around the Bell Centre definitely benefits from game attendance. I never insinuated that the overall economic activity of Montreal is affected.

you wanted them to win the two games you went to earlier this month...

But would you pay good money to go see them lose?
This year I paid good money X3 pretty much expecting them to lose all 3 of those games. The days when I used to buy tickets to see the Habs play the Canucks at the Pacific Coliseum knowing in advance that it would be a guaranteed win are long over. Nowadays you either want to see the Habs play or you don't. If you do, you do so knowing that it probably won't end in a win.

Of the 3 games I went to this season only the one on January 5th against the Rangers caused me any buyer's remorse. It isn't that the Habs lost but that they were so inept and boring and had nearly no shots on goal or any decent scoring chances the entire game. At least the loss in Edmonton in December was an entertaining game and obviously the win against the Blues on January 7th was incredibly fun because there were lots of goals and lead changes (and I was wasted by the 3rd period too)

During the latter stages of the Bergevin era, watching the Habs, win or lose, was often tedious and there was no light at the end of the tunnel save for an oncoming train. Watching a bunch of mediocre 4th liners and past-their-prime vets scuffle in a pathetic attempt to squeak into the last wild card spot every year wasn't something I wanted to spend money to see live. But now I'll gladly watch Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, Wifi and Slaf lose 65 games because it is no longer a pointless exercise. We now have competent anglophone management who are building the foundation of what will eventually be a Cup contender. Right now, every loss is a win down the road.

Fair, I pay to see them play, knowing that the chance of a loss is high, but I still cheer for them to win. The Seattle game last season was terrible.

But I also see them once or twice a year so I'm just happy to see them.
Me too. In a typical season I only have one opportunity to see them live (2 if I have the time to schlep down to Calgary, which can be risky in winter time) If I lived in Montreal, I'd definitely be going to more games this season than I would have gone to during the Bergevin reign of error.

I'm going for the Super Bowl weekend games + the Tuesday night game (Islanders, Oilers, Hawks), but I'll be honest, I was pretty close to cancelling my flight when they were losing 9-2 every night haha.
SB weekend games are great , went a few times
