It’s painful to watch Laine trying out here. Obviously this year was going to be hard, but I dunno if he’s going to be in the league much longer.

Newhook is a third liner. Beck 4th.
 
HuGo have missed on both Newhook and Dach.

Things need to be said as they are….

They cannot afford to miss on the next trades, because no matter how good Demidov is, he still needs a center that can keep up with his talent level, and it’s kinda a bit late in the game to draft one and hope he’ll be ready in 2-3 years (unless it’s a generational talent)

So they need to trade for one….i guess take a chance on another Dach type player

I think Dach will be fine as a winger. Never liked the Newhook trade from the get go.

The 86 Habs didn't get caved by the Rangers. It was the easiest series they played that year. Ran them out of the rink in the first two games, Roy stole Game 3 at MSG, then they coasted through game 4 so they could win the Prince of Wales Trophy in front of the home crowd.

HuGos pro player procurement has been subpar-to-avg range, trade success seem to favor acquiring picks / draft selections (Hutson, Hage etc)

Clear Wins
- Petry + Poehling for Matheson
- Laine for Harris
- Carrier for dipshit

Clear losses
- Lekhonen for dipshit
- Dach for Romanov

TBD
- Toffoli for Heineman
- Newhook

Agreed to a point but they were gambles that didnt derail the future and no major building block was traded away

Both were signed to fair contracts at the right age with upside

Dach was a deal you make 7 days a week , but he is made of glass what can you do.

Not enamored with the Newhook deal but 20 goals and 40-45 points was realistic for 2 picks that may never pan out

I wanted to move both for Musty in the draft

The next trades are more difficult to do as Habs move from dumping to talent accumulation for the continued retool
