GDT Game 71: @ The Slums aka Newark, Thursday, April 7, 7:00 PM EST

And Price isn't too far from a return to play. Very little chance we finish dead last.

I wasn't able to watch. Did Subban play?
Yes. I glanced at the third period, nothing notable from that end. TSN crew had a view that the amount of interest teams will show in PK when he hits free agency will be determined by how much of a pay cut he is willing to take. Obviously it will be most of his current $9M salary. The other question is whether he will want to keep playing. He has made over $70M in his career, according to the crew. The view is that for the right money, PK could be an asset as a 5-6 defenceman to help the a team's young kids. Apparently, he is quite popular in the room.

Would we?

PK has a TV gig all lined up

He will be a rock star and make way more than a 5-6D

He is done , lucky to get 2 yeas at 2 mil

Retire and get your suits ready for broadcasting

New Jersey is another example of a team that seems to be spinning its wheels and returns to the top of the first round to draft year after year. They are joining the Buffalos, Edmontons....at some point you would expect movement.

Jack Hughes is very good . . . when he's not out with an injury, which is frequently. Hischier was just a bad draft year.

Zacha, Holtz, McLeod are other first rounders in the top 10 or close to it in the last half dozen years in addition to the two Hughes and Hischier. Mercer, Ty Smith were picked just beyond the first half of the round. All in all not a bad looking group (to varying individual degrees), although Zacha and McLeod probably not worth where they were picked in addition to Hischier (whom I still like very much as a player). But its certainly taking its sweet time to come together-they are still very much a bottom feeder. Again, finishing at/near the bottom year after year is not a guarantee of any kind of future success. You have to do a lot of other things right as well. One thing may be something as simple as following up the first rounder with other good picks to built up depth/assets. Edmonton, Buffalo, and maybe Jersey too have perhaps missed out there.

Still, I get the sense they may be just one strong goalie away from shooting upwards.

Jack Hughes is a fine player, but not a superstar level player. Luke Hughes, on the other hand...

I like that list, especially the part where it doesn't mention how Barzal's production dropped by ~20% the second he wasn't sheltered behind Tavares.

It's a nice who doesn't belong list otherwise.

Hughes is a really good player. Not a superstar. Caufield's been a > PPG player since The Charlatan's offspring has been let go, he's not a superstar either.

He isn’t elite but made major strides this year.

Staying healthy might be an issue for en entire season

That contract might be a steal that he just signed
